Report: Syria and Hizbullah on Alert for Israeli Attack
(IsraelNN.com) Syria and Hizbullah terrorists in Lebanon have raised their preparedness for an Israeli attack, according to the London-based Arabic newspaper Ash-Sharq il-Awsat. The newspaper says Hizbullah is worried by the concentration of Israeli troops along the Lebanese border ahead of maneuvers, even if Deputy Secretary-General Naim Kassam stressed that it was impossible to say for sure that the attack would be soon.
Kol Yisrael government radio adds that Syria is calling up reservists, including those who live in Lebanon.

Thanks to maquiladora for bringing this news to my attention as it was crossing the wires in the wee hours of the morning.
FYI
Buckle up, 2010 is not going to be boring.
(BTW: Your pants are on the ground.)

There has been much talk . . . but now that there is “metal on the move” I’m going to be paying a little closer attention
ping
Syria has been stirring the pot for a long time. When hostilities start I hope Israel makes Syria pay heavily for its actions.
Syria needs to realize it can’t get off scott free for doing all that it has done against Israel.
One scenario here is that there is no difference in Israel’s military stance, and no imminent plan to move. Instead, it could mean that Hez’ is about to poke thru and grab some Israeli’s, and they are just going to alert so that their forces are ready for the Israeli backlash.

That sounds pretty plausible
Tehran better be watching the skies. Cover of darkness right now.
aka the Bekka Valley
Amen! I hope Israel makes them pay and knocks them back 2 centuries.
Are there any more sources reporting the same alert and troop movements?
With Israel I expect the unexpected. Look eastward.
here is a Lebanese source:
Hizbullah on Alert as Syria Reportedly Called Up Reserve Units
Hizbullah members were said to have been put on high alert as Israeli troops continued to mass along the border with Lebanon under the pretext of military maneuvers, pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat reported Friday.
It cited well-informed Hizbullah sources as saying that Hizbullah has ordered its members to be on “high alert in the event of a surprise Israeli operation against party headquarters and positions.”
Asharq al-Awsat said it has obtained information that Syria has begun calling up its reserve units, including workers living in Lebanon.
The report said Syrian workers were told by their parents about the need to return and join the positions assigned to them.

Am I the only one hoping that Israel puts an end to this once and for all? Turn the place to glass.
Thanks.
Wars and rumors of wars...
Just sayin’
There has definetly been a change in the IDF’s posture in N. Israel over the past couple weeks.
From 1/15

and another -
GAZA, Jan 4 (NNN-KUNA) The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have decided to replace regular combat troops in permanent positions in the West Bank with reserve troops, according to reports reaching here from Israel.
The move is aimed at allowing combat troops move faster to frontlines in case of any eventuality in the future, the Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported on its website, Ynet Sunday.
It will strengthen the combat unit garrisoning in the northern frontline, close to the Lebanese borders

and here is a little antecdotal evidence from a poster over at Ticker Forum who lives in N. Israel -
“Ya a friend of mine who plays ETW and lives in Northern Isreal says something was going down soon because of all the paladins and merkavas that were moving north on the back of lorries.”

-there have also been multiple reports (have to track down the links) that the IAF has stepped up significantly its overflights of southern lebanon and even Syrian controlled territory close to the Golan since the new year, drawing Lebanese Army anti-aircraft fire on 2 occassions
