Obama slays Repubs in Fox News poll
Wash Examiner ^ | 1/21/10 | Julie Mason

A new Fox News poll has President Obama losing in 2012 to a generic Republican candidate -- but mostly stomping a few big-name Republicans. Which leads one to wonder -- who is this generic Republican who could beat him?

According to the poll, Obama beats Mitt Romney, 47 percent to 35 percent, defeats Sarah Palin, 55 percent to 31 percent, and makes a quick business of Newt Gingrich, 53 percent to 29 percent. What, no Santorum?

Generically, Obama loses to an unnamed Republican, 43 percent to 47 percent.

Further: 43 percent of Americans say they would vote to re-elect Barack Obama if the 2012 election were held today, which is unchanged from October, yet is down from 52 percent who said they would re-elect him in April.

All in all, 47 percent of Americans say they would vote for someone else rather than re-electing President Obama, up from 31 percent in April.

Moreover, the number saying they would "definitely" vote to re-elect Obama has declined -- going from 37 percent in April to 26 percent in October to 23 percent in the new poll.

The January unemployment numbers will be “unexpectedly horrific.”

I don’t think Jindhal or the other Southern guvs have a prayer. Perry strikes me as the most ‘Scott Brownish’ (certainly in looks), though he seems poised for a veep slot rather than the top of the ticket (and is he like Bush on immigration?)

I suppose Mike Rounds from SD doesn’t have a chance?

We have to have a candidate that appeals to the independents and a good 10-15% of Democrats which means someone new. Sarah, unfortunately, is a polarizing figure and can do the most good for our Nation right now being a spokesman not a candidate.

Pissant, you’ll be here 30 years from now screeching like a fool about Duncan.

Seriously, how freakin delusional can you be.

Hunter spent 2 years running for president and I bet you no more than 1% of the Americans outside of his own district could identify him out of lineup.

He has the personality of a stick.

Keep ranting and raving though. Your persistant lunacy is still entertaining to some of us here.

A dose of reality - no matter how much Obama's policies are disliked, he himself has a lot of goodwill from many Americans. The GOP needs someone with brains, great communication skills and a lot of charisma to make a credible run. They don't have anyone like that right now, however. Duncan Hunter is good on a lot of issues but he'd lose to Obama in one of the biggest landslides in US history.

Some of these names have not campaigned for president yet. Sarah hasn’t. She had to keep her Veep aspirations within the boundaries of McCain’s platform, which was not very impressive. I think once nitty gritty issues are discussed on the campaign trail, Sarah would have a huge advantage over the Bummer who is totally in a fog of denial.

Another couple years of this crap and nobody will have the baggage that Obama has. Jack the Ripper would beat him.

Yep.

Time is on our side. Wait for the economic earthquakes that are going to start swarming after the first of this year...

It is very difficult for those of you in Jesusland to understand just how unpopular the Republicans are.

Brown won IN SPITE of being the GOP candidate, not because of it - which makes his victory even more impressive, IMO.

The People are ready to dump the Democrats - all of 'em, maybe.

But the alternative is not clear, and the GOP has not closed the deal.

The title spins like a top. Obama slays repubs except for the one that bumps him out of office.

Except to be realistic, in EVERY poll I’ve seen-—and I’m perfectly willing to be corrected here-—she gets beat worse than Romney. So how she’s the “only one that would have a chance” is beyond me. She gets crushed in head-to-head matchups.

I agree. Someone has to, on the national level, take up the smaller government mantra with SPECIFICS. Pro-business, pro-military, low taxes, and above all reduce the size and expenditures of government.

“Generic Republican Candidate” has no baggage while anyone you name, Republican or Democrat does have lots of baggage.

Bingo.
