Sen. Webb: No HCR Votes Until Brown Seated
talking points memo ^

Posted on 01/19/2010 7:10:50 PM PST by cdchik123

Less than 15 minutes after the race was called for Republican Scott Brown, the first of what could be many conservative Democrats asks for leadership to put the brakes on health care reform.

Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) congratulated Brown on his win and delivered a zinger:

"In many ways the campaign in Massachusetts became a referendum not only on health care reform but also on the openness and integrity of our government process. It is vital that we restore the respect of the American people in our system of government and in our leaders. To that end, I believe it would only be fair and prudent that we suspend further votes on health care legislation until Senator-elect Brown is seated."

If Obama, Reid, Pelosi, et al, are stupid enough to ignore the obvious will of the American people (and they well might be stupid enough) then any and every move they come up with to try to Rahm this health care abomination down our throats will backfire like the explosives in an inept suicide bomber’s underwear.

With democrats about to desert Obama in droves, he could offer to carve Olympia Snowe on Mt. Rushmore, and even she wouldn’t budge. The fat lady sang loud and clear tonight, even to those too tone-deaf to hear her!

Trust me. Obozo will move forward, not to the center.

His supporters will push him over the edge — that’s all he
has left. They will make him MORE radical, not less, in the
months ahead.

Just watch ...

I must confess to feeling at least a mild sense of relief.

That said, I recommend we keep our guard up.

Scott Brown’s Ride
(with heartfelt apologies to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

Listen my children to a feat of renown—
The midnight ride of Scott P. Brown.
On the nineteenth of January, in Twenty-Ten,
Hardly a man will forget just when
Obamacare came crashing down.

Scott said to his friend, “If Senator Kennedy dies,
I’ll fight for his seat—for the people’s seat.
I’ll ask my fellow Bay Staters to rise
And the liberal establishment to defeat.
Martha Coakley will try her luck;
But I will turn to my trusty truck,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm.”

Then he said “Good-night!” and with muffler on
Silently drove around Charlestown,
Just as the moon rose in the night sky,
Where the lit Capitol was looming high—
The Capitol—the Democrats’ redoubt,
Where every party hack and lout,
In Boston as in Washington, D.C.,
Was spending the taxpayers’ money
And the people thought it no longer funny....

That was all! And yet, through the gloom and the light,
The fate of a nation was riding that night;
And the spark struck out by Scott Brown, in his fight,
Kindled the land into flame as right met might....

You know the rest. On this blog you have read
How the Democratic Regulars fired and fled,
How the citizens gave them ball for ball,
From behind each fence and farmyard wall,
Chasing the Democrats down the lane,
Then crossing the fields to emerge again
Under the trees at the turn of the road,
And only pausing to fire and load.

So through the night rode Scott P. Brown;
And so through the night went his cry of alarm
To every Middlesex village and farm,
A cry of defiance, to every city and town,
A voice in the darkness, a knock at the door,
And a vote that shall echo for evermore!
For, borne on the night-wind of the Past,
Through all our history, to the last,
In the hour of darkness and peril and pluck,
The people will waken in every town
To the echoes of that old GM truck,
And the midnight message of Scott P. Brown.

"This just strengthens my belief that the Dems, knowing how unpopular they are right now, will use it to their advantage. They’ll let Brown kill health care reform, and blame it ALL on the Republicans; he gives them a way out of their unpopular legislation.

'We chose to do the right thing, and not use the nuclear option, and the Republicans remain the party of no.'...”

The Republicans should gladly accept the moniker "Party of No" and live up to it:
The Party of No socialized medicine,
The Party of No killing of the innocent,
The Party of No government takeover of private businesses,
The Party of No infringement of Second Amendment rights,
The Party of No cap and tax,
The Party of No amnesty for illegal immigrants
I could go on. A lot of great moments in history have occurred when someone stood up and said 'NO'!

EXACTLY! Every senator or member of congress who participated in this assault on the American people should immediately apologize to America for violating their oath of office and their imperious behaviour, return every DIME they ever received as salary, and RESIGN in total disgrace.

Yes, that WOULD (barely) begin to restore my trust and confidence in government. Anything less is just pretending.

The Libs are all Obozo has left. He will listen to them before he will listen to us. Count on that.

They will push him to the FAR Left and he will use the Executive Branch to enact what he could not get through the Congress, just like he did with the EPA’s regulation of CO2 gases.

We should have fewer targets to keep in our sights in the months ahead — politically-speaking, of course.

Keep your powder dry.

Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC says Webb is speaking for about ten "moderate" Democrat senators on this.
It would seem that even one Senate Democrat would be enough to prevent a cloture vote from succeeding.

Well sure they will. But will the American people buy it? I don’t think so.

This idea of moderate democrats is ludicrous - a moderate would have voted NO on this horrific bill but noooo, they went lock and step in with the leadership and even a few got “bought” for their votes. I despise the tricks and dirty play of the democrats and hope they ALL go down in November...After tonight, NO SEAT IS SAFE! Send e-mails to every Congressmen - YOU”RE BEING WATCHED BY AMERICA, so you’d better JUST VOTE NO!

Hey, I said I’m OK with it, and I think that’s pretty clear in the post. I’m not disagreeing with you one bit.

I’m just sayin’ the Dems, in all their corrupt glory, will use this as a “Get Out of Jail Free” card.

I don’t think so, either. Regardless of what they do now, I think the sleeping giant has been awakened, and it’s time to send some Rats home.

We have Democrats Baucus and Tester here in Montana. Denny Rheberg is our Republican Congressman. I contact all of our representatives when I have something to say. The Democrats always give me the form letter.

I like the idea of sending them the “You are being watched” message. I’ve already told them many times to save their form letters, but they send them anyway. I have this picture in my mind about some kid in their offices just pushing the keys to send that “Thank you for your thoughts” response, to every message received, without anyone reading them.
