I noticed that, too. Shocking. I’m going to contact the Pentagon about it.

I can hear my grandfather, a proud 509th WWII vet, rolling in his grave.

I am so glad he’s with the great I AM and doesn’t have to watch what we’re doing to ourselves.

My wife was in St. Croix after Hurricane Hugo as an MP and they were armed the whole time they were there.

Are we sure about this? maybe someone should contact Fox and/or Drudge.

I wouldn’t put it past our leaders to do this, but it’s insane, because they are supposed to be there guarding innocent Haitians as well as themselves.

France has been screaming that the U.S. is exceeding its authority, and people like Chavez have accused us of invading Haiti. Normally we would ignore someone like Chavez, or just give him a diplomatic poke, but with Obama in charge and Gates ready to bow down, who knows?

I did not see the video, but I've been involved in these kinds of operations in a number of places. It is not unusual for the military to establish a secure perimeter with armed sentries, and then have other soldiers/Marines pass out the aid supplies while being unarmed. It just sends a better message.

If everyone is actually unarmed, that is unwise beyond words.

Yours truly in response to Rodguy911 a couple of days ago...

And like you said, guns vs sticks. Shouldn't be a problem, but stupid liberal Democrats have this habit of making our warfighters leave their ammo in the truck.

And I thought everyone on FreeRepublic was nuts about with their comments that he wants to disarm our Military.

Boy, I have egg on my face.

Next they will be handing out Flowers and Singing Songs about Peace and Love.

I feel for these guys, without a gun there I would feel naked.

I bet there are armed sentries off-camera, and weapons where they can get to them. We all remember the African “relief effort” and how that went. And so do they.

I thought 0bama was not going to deploy troops unless they were properly equipped.

Last night CBS did a spot about UN troops being very aggressive, pushing around the Haitians in contrast to our USA troops. Our troops had guns, but the report said they were NOT loaded.

Just sent this to all 3 of my congresscritters:

I just caught a report from Haiti in which it was mentioned that we have troops from the 82nd Airborne doing security work at a food distribution center UNARMED!!!!!!!

Need you to get into that and let me know if it’s true.

Given Obama’s past behavior in these situations, it probably is.

And given the level of crime and general lawlessness in that sad place, that sounds like a recipe for another Beirut Embassy catastrophe to me.

BUT – BUT AMERICA AND AMERICANS ARE SO “UNREMARKABLE!”

The hearts and prayers of Americans always go out to those who suffer catastrophic events. Haiti is but the most recent example. American people and treasure are already flowing into that sad place, made sadder still by this earthquake.

Of course, as Barack Obama spent his first year in office reminding the entire world, America is just like all the other nations out there and we are a most “unremarkable” people.

I’d remind him that the wealth which we are now about to pour into Haiti is the result of the superior and productive political and economic system left us by some wise and far-sighted men over 240 years ago. How sad that Obama is well on the way to destroying it. Obama and his not so merry band of Chicago thugs need to ask themselves from where that wealth now flowing into Haiti will come when they complete their sought after destruction of the unique American system?

The persistent poverty in places like Haiti is a product of the inferior systems the people of far too many of those nations continue to tolerate. I don’t know much about the human beings at the top of the current Haitian food chain but situations of this sort have, in the past, caused a huge surge in the quantity of numbered accounts in Swiss banks. I hope that doesn’t happen in this situation. If it should, I hope the decent members of the Haitian population conduct public hangings of those involved.

As one commentator recently remarked, Haiti could easily join the other wealthy tourist spots in the Caribbean were it not for their unfortunate inability to move out of the 18th century.

If any good can come from this disaster, perhaps it will be that they will reexamine their social and economic “model” and rebuild their homeland in ways that will permit ALL of their citizens to participate and prosper.

I posed that very question days ago re: ammunition as we saw troops out amidst the devastation.

What’s in your magazine?

Amazing.
