Transcript: Scott Brown Addresses Worcester 'People's Rally'
Weekly Standard ^ | 01/17/10 | John McCormack (blogged transcript)

Thank you very much. What a privilege it is to share the stage with John Ratzenberger, Lenny Clarke, Doug Flutie, Curt Schilling, Fred Smerlas, Steve DeOssie, and many, many others - and my favorite singer, Ayla Brown.

As you know, Curt Schilling made the news just a couple of days ago when my opponent didn’t recognize his name. Of all the many false accusations she’s made in this campaign, one of the strangest was to call Curt Schilling a Yankee fan. Let me properly identify the guy she’s been smearing on the radio: His name is Curt Schilling, formerly of the World Champion Red Sox - you know, a baseball team that plays at Fenway Park.

Doug Flutie, what can I say, great guy, great career, and I am proud you are here. John Ratzenberger, a wonderful actor, you brought a lot of laughs to us during your many years with Cheers. Fred and Steve, you are legends and good friends. Ayla, thank you for again sharing your beautiful voice. Millions have seen her on national TV, and going through this campaign I’ve got an idea of what Ayla went through on “American Idol.” She had to deal with Simon Cowell, and I had to deal with David Gergen.

Our campaign is going strong, and the finish line is in sight. The day of decision is almost here. The whole nation is watching, but the choice on Election Day belongs to you and no one else. Friends and fellow citizens, I’m Scott Brown, I’m from Wrentham, I drive a truck and I’m asking for your vote.

Some other parts I enjoyed not in excerpt above:

- "Before the president rushed to the scene, we saw my opponent standing with a former president, the governor, the senior senator, the appointed senator – the whole party establishment, right on down the line. At the beginning, it felt like me against the machine. But guess what? I was wrong. It’s us against the machine. I don’t need an establishment to prop me up. I stand before you as the proud candidate of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents across Massachusetts, north and south, east and west."

- "I will work in the Senate to reform health care in the right way, the honest way. No more closed-door meetings behind the scenes. No more arrogant party leadership. "

- "I will work in the Senate to put government back on the side of people who create jobs – and as John F. Kennedy taught us, that starts with a tax cut for the American people."

- "I believe that our Constitution and laws exist to protect this nation – they do not grant rights and privileges to enemies in wartime. In dealing with terrorists, our tax dollars should pay for weapons to stop them, not lawyers to defend them."

Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles! I just got off the phone with my 88 year-old father; a died in the wool, life-long democrat who was born in and has lived in Mass for over 70 years. HE HAS NEVER VOTED FOR A REPUBLICAN… NEVER. After polite chit chat about the NFL play off games I dared broach the subject and asked him if he was going to vote on Tuesday (every time “politics” have come up in the past he has berated me with tirades about those “evil republicans”). Well, he came right out and told me… “I AM going to vote on Tuesday and I am seriously thinking of voting for Scott Brown.” Needless to say I was and am totally ASTONISHED… ASTONISHED (I did not let him know in the least and kept my heart-felt joy and enthusiasm at his answer to my self so as to not “scare him off”)!

I tactfully asked him WHY he was going to vote for Brown and his answer was: “Because of the healthcare bill Obama is trying to pass.” I carefully agreed with him and reinforced the fact that Obama wants to gut Medicare/Medicaid by taking away 500 BILLION DOLLARS from the system and that if he adds 40 million people to the rolls, especially illegal aliens the health care system would collapse… I told him that Brown is an honorable man and that he is totally opposed to the “healthcare” bill and would vote against it… MY DAD AGREED! I was flabbergasted!

If my own father; a life-long Massachusetts FDR Democrat who has voted for EVERY Kennedy, Kerry/democrat to ever come down the pike, is going to vote for Scott Brown, a REPUBLICAN, BECAUSE OF HIS OPPOSITION TO Obama and his evil healthcare debacle then things are looking VERY promising for Scott Brown and we could all be in for an incredible victory on Tuesday. To this end I am fervently praying.

What a beautiful story. I suspect there are many, many, more senior citizens who feel the same way who could turn the tide for Scott on Tuesday. God Bless him and them

So far there are only a few short snippets on YouTube from the rally, but it's clear the energy level, enthusiasm, warmth and general good feelings were astonishingly high. The decoration of the hall, and the color and kinetics added by supercharged supporters, were striking, even beautiful, and in strong contrast to the utilitarian and familiar setting and staging of the Chokely affair. The use of beloved, and fully engaged, local celebs, versus a cold, telepromptered Prez, also provided a telling contrast. Wow, wow, WOW!
