Amid the rash of appeals for Haiti donations has come a call from one of the most prominent voices on the American right for people to hang on to their cash because Barack Obama might steal it.
Rush Limbaugh, the most popular radio talkshow host, who is sometimes described as the real leader of the Republican party, says Americans should not give a penny to a population struggling for survival after the earthquake.
Limbaugh agreed with a caller suspicious that the White House website was being used to direct funds to the American Red Cross. "Would you trust the money's gonna go to Haiti?" the caller asked. Limbaugh then said Obama was exploiting the disaster for political ends.
"This [the earthquake] will play right into Obama's hands," said Limbaugh. "He's humanitarian, compassionate. They'll use this to burnish their, shall we say, credibility with the black community both light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country. This is made to order for them."
Limbaugh also warned Americans against donating money. "Besides, we've already donated to Haiti. It's called the US income tax," he said.

Its a blatant lie.
I guess we should just shut up and do whatever the leftist says or they’ll lie about us?

RUSH: I’m gonna respond to this absolute BS that I said don’t donate. But, you know, I do not make this program about me. I try very hard not to make this program about me. So if I have time to deal with that, I will. I’m confident everybody in this audience knows what I said and what I didn’t say. Even the Washington Post says without the context, “What Limbaugh said is horrible.” All I said was, if you paid your income taxes, that’s how you donate to government for aid, and sure enough, here comes Obama announcing $100 million from the government for aid to Haiti, fine and dandy. But, you paid for it, it’s your taxes.
All I said was if you’re going to donate do it outside the government, pure and simple. I was attacked, folks, because I am the leading voice of mainstream conservative views, not for any other reason. And this outrage is totally feigned, just as Tony Blankley said, all this outrage at me is totally faked up. They know exactly what I said, and they know for a fact that I would never tell people not to donate to any charitable cause like this, so it is what it is.

This is the exact exchange
Justin of Raleigh, North Carolina: “Why does Obama say if you want to donate some money, you could go to whitehouse.gov to direct you how to do so? If I wanted to donate to the Red Cross, why do I have to go to the White House page to donate?”
Limbaugh: “Exactly. Would you trust the money’s gonna go to Haiti?”
Justin: “No.”
Rush: “But would you trust that your name’s gonna end up on a mailing list for the Obama people to start asking you for campaign donations for him and other causes?”
Justin: “Absolutely!”
Limbaugh: “Absolutely!”
That comment is taken out of context.
Rush NEVER said what he is being accused of.
He NEVER said do not donate.

Read it from the horses mouth and stop being suckered by left wing agitprop.
“Did you even bother to listen to what Rush said?”
No.
It is unchristian and immoral to lie like this newspaper is doing.
“rightwing US shock jock”
Effin’ morons.
He is a troll. This crap has already started over on Sarah’s FB page trying to cite her as a racist. They are too easy to spot now by citing a biased and contrived news report and then denegrating the object of the report.
I spent several weeks over on Glenn’s FB Fans page and learned their tactics there.
This is nothing more than orchestrated despiration.
“Besides, we’ve already donated to Haiti. It’s called the US income tax,” he said.
Doesn’t sound like he is asking listeners to donate from that.////
He was talking about giving through the government website. He was being sarcastic. Taking one little sentence out of context is stupid on your part.
government should not be giving away the peoples money if people want to donate they can but its not the role of the government to give away taxpayers money
He never said don’t donate.
He asked if you trust the Government to send Haiti the money, then suggested going to the charities themselves.
**Most people won’t bother to check it out though (including some FReepers apparently), so it will achieve its purpose.**
This last month or so, I have been inundated with FReepers who seem to have taken the Kegger mantra.. “My mind is made up.. don’t try to confuse me with facts.”
I’m about ready to leave. Everytime I turn around, I’m getting slammed by individuals who sound more like Posters from DAILY KOS or the Dummys Underground. I’ve seen so many normally intelligent Conservatives turn into FLAMING LIBERALS by falling for liberal tripe like the original article of this thread.
Oh, freaking please.
I won't go to the WH site either.
I wouldn't give directly to Haiti or Haitians either. The country is corrupt and there is news that Wyclef Jean's charity is misusing funds, for example.
The Left politicized Katrina, why on earth wouldn't they politicize this.
He was saying people should not donate to whitehouse.gov, he said to donate to the Red Cross and other organizations instead.
Even Fox News said it was better to donate to NGOs instead of any government fund. The NGOs know what they are doing the Gov. does not!
