Oliver Willis notices Scott Brown defending the Massachusetts health care plan -- which he supported -- and trying to make the case that it's really quite different from the federal plan with which it shares key features.
"They're two different programs. What we have here is a free-market enterprise where we're providing insurance in various levels to people in Massachusetts. The plans in Washington are a one-size-fits-all plan," he said.

Dude. Ask ANY ‘conservative’ in MA how they like their current governor compared to Romney. The current guy is a liberal doofus. This is THEIR decision. Let’s fix Virginia before we worry about Massachusetts - OK?
Glad to see we have FReepers springing into action to march bravely into the jaws of victory and rescue defeat.
Rabs is a Paultard. He could care less about electoral realities.
When Brown wins...game over for the dims...
I have no problem supporting this guy. He’s pledged to torpedo the health bill and breaks the filibuster-proof majority. That’s all I care about here. He’s a one-termer anyway.
It sounds like there’s a troll or two trying to make a little trouble here. Snide comments, tangential issues. Glad to see they’re being slapped down.
Just don’t drool or drag your knuckles too much while your surfing FreeRepubloic.com.
Conservatives need to quit making the perfect the enemy of the good.
They are ALL enemies of freedom.
The question therefore becomes: will you or any of the other conservatives here actually fight McCain, Romney, and the rest of the statist RINOs, or will y'all just vault them in to power because the Democrats are "worse"?
There was a Scott Brown thread in the past week that had probably 200+ really creepy anti-Romney keywords.
And I’m talking creepy keywords...it made me wonder who had that much pent up anger against Romney that they would go in and take the time to put them all in.
It wasn’t the person who started the thread.
I almost feel sorry for you, now that the shoe’s on the other foot.
Apparently, we are more pragmatic than it sometimes appears.
During the primary, there was a freeper poll late in the game (after all the good candidates were gone) that Romney managed to win. That was a wake-up call.
The polls are all gone now, and on many days you will find more anti-Romney ads here than anti-Obama, or anti-Democrat ads.
This particular race is a "damned if you, damned if you don't" race.
Personally, if I were a Mass. voter, I'd ignore the line for Senator and move on to the other ballot items.
(Thankfully, I'm not a Mass. voter.)
sw
I would vote for Brown, but realise that in my opinion, the Romney of 2008 was much more conservative than Brown is today, having a platform much more to my liking (without which he would not have gotten my support).
But I still feel that in a year or two we’ll be grousing about “another RINO” in the senate, and wondering how we can get rid of Brown and replace him with someone ‘on our side’.
Such is the nature of politics — but I’d rather be grousing about a guy who is against us some of the time than standing in line waiting for my medical exams and wondering what happened to my country.
I just think it’s funny that Scott Brown, whos is just about everything Romney was back in 2002 except Mormon, gets as much support here as he does, when Romney was castigated for many even for his run for Mass. Governor (I understand the presidential run, because the “Mass. is just so liberal” is hardly an argument for putting a liberal in the white house).
A Brown election on Tuesday would stop the Obama socialist agenda cold, and herald a Republican takeover in November. You look at this and see tangential benefit for what you consider RINO's, and that is what you are worked up over?
I don't know what flavor of Kool-Aid you are drinking, but it must be potent stuff.
This is what I wrote in a similar thread the other day, so this is not directed at you, CharlesWayneCT, so I hope you don’t take it that way.
Someone had mentioned that Scott Brown had the slight smell of a RINO...
You would think the slight smell of RINO would be completely overpowered by the stench and reek of liberal decay that darkens the air and makes your eyes water from Coakley.
People need to give this RINO stuff a rest, especially those of you who don’t live in this state. If we can get a senatorial candidate elected in Massachusetts who will vote 90-95% conservative rather than one who is guaranteed to vote 100% liberal NO MATTER HOW RADICAL AND LEFT THE AGENDA, you would think even a fool could make that choice.
Apparently a lot of people have “principles” and would rather see someone like Coakley elected. Scott Brown had come out against socialized health care and global warming, and at least understands that it is the Taliban killing our men in Afghanistan and why we are there.
Screw anti-RINO principles. We have to fight to avoid socialized health care and cap and tax, two of the most immediate threats to our way of life.
If I sound angry, it is because I am.
People bitch and moan about how terrible the politicians are from Massachusetts, and rightfully so, but then when a candidate appears who isn’t RONALD EFFING REAGAN, we have to hear how he shouldn’t be respected, supported or elected even when running against a radical liberal dimwit ideologue like Coakley because he isn’t the mirror image of Reagan. I am sick and damned tired of it.
I have lived in Massachusetts since my dad retired from the Navy, except for my time I spent in the military myself. I have always had to live under the thumb of ultra-liberal Democrats for nearly my entire adult life, and reconcile myself with the FACT that I have NO representation in Washington that reflects MY values, and that my conservative vote for national candidates EVERY SINGLE YEAR is simply pissing in the wind, but I go faithfully and do it anyway.
This candidate has a chance. He has pretty much done it without the national support of the despicable RNC or politicians at the national level, and to a small degree I understand that. Politicians don’t want to be seen associating with a sure loser, which is what every conservative candidate is up here in this corrupt political machine. But what rankles me even worse, I come on Free Republic and hear people tearing him down on here. Sure, it is better now because people can see the candidate has a fighting chance, but we (and the RNC) should have been supporting this candidate from day one with vocal public support and money, neither of which was forthcoming until only recently.
I suggest jettisoning your anti-RINO principles for what it takes to defeat this radical, liberal Marxist agenda in Washington before it is too late. And that involves wholeheartedly supporting a candidate like Scott Brown. If you don’t, you will have your principles, and you can eat those principles with your boiled wool overcoats and shoe leather, if you can find any fuel to heat water to boil them in.
You're right.
BUT...I shan't engage in political relativism in order to justify support what is otherwise a candidate with a rather alarming record.
If conservatives don't stand for something real and substantive--and that's a form of "purity," IMO--, e.g., a minimal, limited, Constitutional Federal government that maximizes individual freedom and liberty, then all they really stand for is getting re-elected, or in the case of the last election, getting Republicans re-elected. And that makes their words into nothing more than hollow verbiage.
Folks all over have been warning of the "slippery slope." There has got to be a point where one just has to put his (or her!) foot down; for me that point was last year.
Been reading the responses to you and I can see we still have a forum and nation that when the push comes to shove it is vote for the “R” cause he ain’t a “D” mentality. Some things never change, unfortunately for the Republic.
Considering that a Brown win would mean an end to the Dem supermajority, that is a big deal.
Some things never change, unfortunately for the Republic.
Likewise, there are always a few retards on FR who can't resist looking a gift horse in the mouth.
