If there are plans to bring thousands of orphaned children, it would be best to streamline the adoption process and get them into good families. No burden on one community and it will actually do the children much more good than creating a cultural ghetto for them.

I saw it reported that Haiti has a very high population of AIDs infected persons. So, I wonder if there will be any attempt to screen for health concerns? It would be prudent given that the Dims so badly want health care reform.

This is the last thing our state needs!! What can we as Florida citizens do to let the message out that we don’t want them?

Heard on AM radio today that the Dominican Republic has closed their border to Haiti, allowing no refugees in for any reason, back up with Dominican troops.
Seems they know what a mess a flood of homeless, hungry Haitians will mean for their country.

Many years back (30-35 maybe) the National Lampoon magazine came up with the line,”Haitians are the official state n*ggers of Florida.” I have never forgotten that quip for some strange reason. Sounds as if it might be applicable today...SSZ

“I saw it reported that Haiti has a very high population of AIDs infected persons. So, I wonder if there will be any attempt to screen for health concerns? “

Quite the opposite.

After 22 Years, HIV Travel and Immigration Ban Lifted

“The United States of America has moved one step closer to helping combat the stigma and ignorance that still too often guides public policy debates around HIV/AIDS,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese.

1/4/2010

Washington – The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, hailed the announcement that a ban on HIV positive visitors and immigrants entering the country, first established in 1987, has been lifted. A regulation promulgated by the Obama administration last summer and finalized in November goes into effect today, removing HIV from the list of communicable diseases that bar foreign nationals from entering the United States.

Zero lifted the ban on giving Visas to HIV positive visitors. **src on***Perfect timing!***src off. Also, Haiti has one of the highest rates of TB on the world. When they talk about Haiti living in the 18th century they really mean it. The thing missing is the pox.

Actually the report I saw...Hiv/Aids was second on the list...tuberculosis was first...

..although those with Aids are very susceptible to tuberculosis

And isn't there a drug resistant strain of tuberculosis now.

They have my sympathy, but why Florida? Why not send some of them to the other 49 states?

The impact on local schools could be significant -- especially if charities move forward with plans to bring thousands of orphaned children to South Florida.

Then why in the hell aren't these "charities" being made to foot the bill instead of dumping more Third World illiterates on us? The langauge barrier is tremendous (Hataian Creole), let alone the culture. I know it's TV, but just watch "Cops", using interpreters, when they are working the Hispanic/Hatain slums to see what we're importing.
