Everything’s staged: Michelle Obama’s garden food was fake

They stage their health care town halls.

They hand out lab coats to make their doctor donors look authentic.

They treat soldiers as “pretty good photo ops.”

So, this Iron Chef revelation about Michelle Obama’s produce is entirely in keeping with Obama Theater:

"For months, the Food Network ran ads about a forthcoming episode of “Iron Chef America,” its flagship chefs plus secret ingredient versus time competition. The show would take place at the White House garden, with Michelle Obama making a cameo and plugging her responsible-eating initiative. The network promised it would be its biggest episode ever."

"The buildup matched the reality: The Jan. 3 “Iron Chef America” drew 7.6 million viewers, the highest-rated show in network history. In it, superstar chef Mario Batali teamed with Emeril Lagasse, and Bobby Flay with White House chef Cristeta Comerford to cook five dishes using the secret ingredient: produce from the White House garden."

"Except for one thing: As first reported on AOL’s Politics Daily blog, the fruits and vegetables used on the show weren’t from the White House. They were stunt produce. Ringers."

"At the beginning of the two-hour special, the chefs were shown picking sweet potatoes, broccoli, fennel and tomatillos from the White House garden. Then the chefs were seen walking into Kitchen Stadium, produce in hand. One problem: The show is filmed in New York City."

It is not a fake garden. The garden exists. Food Network made the call not to transport the vegetables and herbs.

Surprised the damn produce in the garden isn’t a state secret.

I’m sick of the whole bunch. They aren’t even the slightest bit interesting any more.

I read months ago that none of the produce coming out of the WH garden could be consumed because of sludge put in the dirt by the Clinton administration. I still have not figured out why someone would do that.

Sewer sludge makes great (and cheap) fertilizer FOR A LAWN. Not so good for growing vegetables that people eat.

My understanding is that the sludge that had been used was contaminated with heavy metals. Definitely not good for human consumption.

I was suspicious of the final vote that Bobby Flay/Commerford beat Mario Batali / Lagasse.

Sucking up to the Zer0’s.

Good list and now I’m wondering given all the unknowns if he’s even a citizen. Wouldn’t that be a jolt - not.

Isn't the Aunt Esther garden using sewage sludge as fertilizer?

Why would anyone want to cook with produce from that garden anyway?

toxic sludge vegetables from Michelles Garden. Remember they claimed that the hottie tottie lettuce was grown too at the White House Garden. Can you believe that too, hottie tottie lettuce for the State Dinner grown in DC? The transparency of this administration is so transparent that it is invisible

This is a chance for me to get in some digs on the Food Network.

There are a lot of fake things on the Food Network. If you that the opponents on Iron Chef aren't selected in advance, you are as dumb as a stump. The Challenging Chef may have selected the opponent but it was done in advance. If you think all those high priced chefs are going to stand up there and wait to see if they are picked for the challenge, then I've got a bridge across the SF Bay I'd like to sell you.

If you think that the show Throwdown where Bobby Flay shows up unexpectedly for a food challenge isn't staged, then I've got a second bridge to sell you.

That said I'm a fan of the FN, it's just that in my opinion there's too much entertainment on in primetime and not enough instruction shows.

Exactly. I'm lucky to have my early girl tomatoes producing in 45 days, much less anything else. But what do you expect? If they'll fake a birth certificate, they'll fake anything.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

I turned on the Food Network, saw her face, and immediately turned it off just as I do when her husband, The Fuhrer, appears on TV or radio. My gag reflex can’t take it.

“Although I am curious to see if the chefs will get any of the fallout for this. Obviously they knew what was going on and went along with it.”

Yup. Wonder if their ratings will drop when their viewers find out they (the chefs) were a willing party to a charade.
