He is Arizonas most popular politician and arguably Americas toughest sheriff, but today Joe Arpaio faces his biggest challenge: a grand jury investigation that could cost him his office.
It is not right for law enforcement to abuse its authority in this way, said Paul Charlton, a former US Attorney now representing one of Arpaios legal targets. If you find yourself living in a place where law enforcement investigates its enemies and accuses judges who rule against them of crimes, you are either living in a third world county or Maricopa country.
The Maricopa County Sheriffs Office is Americas fourth largest sheriffs department. For 18 years is has been run by Joe Arpaio, a flamboyant former Las Vegas cop and DEA agent who turned a local law enforcement agency into a national headline machine.
Arpaio forced inmates to wear pink underwear, claiming the color calmed them. He created the nations first female chain gang. He reduced inmate meals from three to two a day, claiming to serve the cheapest prisoner meal in the U.S. at just 15 cents each.

Officials currently under investigation by the Sheriff include:
Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon
Chairman of the Maricopa Board of Supervisors Don Stapley
Supervisor and the countys leading Hispanic politician Mary Rose Wilcox
State Attorney General Terry Goddard
County Manager David Smith
Presiding Criminal Judge Gary Donahoe

No example you provided is Joe going after any private citizen that isn’t a known criminal. Get a life. This kind of blanket statement about your rights being abridged is the trash that lead to this chaotic mess. The criminals run loose and the citizens suffer.
Are you going to be deported in one of his sweeps? Well, good riddance. The rest of us will sleep easy that the bad guys are nervous.
The people being investigated work closely together and are ruining our country. You are to quick to blame the people who are tring to protect us.
“Joe may be tough on criminals and illegals but he’s not the saint that people want to make him out to be. “
Uh, no, hei is indeed a saint vis a vis illegal immigration. Howze cum all the federal left wing law experts can’t pin anything on him? Hmmmmm?
You are an IDIOT!
When Holder subpoenas FR’s records to see who may have read a particular article then you might start taking issue with abuse of privacy.
Or maybe you are one of those types that could care less when elected officials abuse their power for the good of something else.
ATF anyone?
Your post is that of a pathetic poser trying to look like he’s a rough guy.
Your self congratulating conservative credentials are hot air too.
LOL! Droppen zee dead!
Go whine to the ACLU. They’ll hold your hand in the restroom and make sure that no big bad government man comes to scare you.
don’t feel bad, I tried to open some eyes about Old Joe a few days ago and got the same responce. I changed my mind about him after he took over the County Computer Center at gunpoint and forced the admin on pain of arrest to hand over the admin passwords. That episode was on both Slashdot.org and Fark.com.
Nobody’s perfect.
We read about an awful lot of judges who use their position to shove their political beliefs down our throats, go after personal and political enemies and for personal gain.
Seeing someone turn around and do it to them will, mostly, gain applause on this forum.
All trolls should be dressed in pink.

Okay, I looked, can’t find what you are referring to. Give us links. Question: If the sheriff isn’t allowed the passwords to the county computer center, who is????
Quislings!
LOL. And eat bologna.
It is at slashdot you must search with “Maricopa County” adn it will come up. But the article is not clear on wether it was illeagal for the SO to do it.
Maybe you should tell that to all of the gun owners as well whenever someone tramples on their 2nd amendment rights.
You are not a conservative. More like a big cherry picker who thinks we can enforce the ones that feel good and chuck the rest.
A government official who can act like a thug when he or she feels like it cannot be excused for their actions. Period. They lend cover to other bad actors who trample on other people’s rights.
I like the fact that he is tough on illegals. Wish more people would take a stand but his defenders want to ignore the BS he engages in simply because he cracks on border jumpers. I am always amazed by people who want to call themselves conservative and the way they check their principles at the door when it suits them. The constant excuses for Bush because of the WOT and that he wasn’t a Democrat never mind the way he bent over for illegals and his big government spending.
This is an utter non-sequitor. If your definition of conservative is that one must hate law and order because it impinges upon your love of anarchy and lack of order, then I am not your pet-dog conservative.
But, the conservatives I know are law abiding, respectable citizens that understand we must be firm with law breakers. And, Phil Gordon fits that category with the refuge he has provided illegal aliens.
That this seems to encroach on your Waco World, tough. The real conservatives understand Joe is doing the job no other guy has the kahunies to do. And, he isn't coming for your guns unless you are doing something illegal with them. Is that why you sound afraid? Then be afraid...be very afraid.
Do you have some links to where you attacked the whole corrupt Obama, Chicago thug-ocracy? Arizona is a corrupt state from which we got Janet the Homeland Security Czar. She continually vetoed any bills that would have slowed the invasion of illegals.
Get a life you Lawyer wantabe.
