Hey, I always go to the beach when I’m AWOL....
Isn’t it about time that we held the military accountable for these screwups?
Would you sign that guy up after taking one look at his face?
No, I didn’t think so.
He’s an Iraqui citizen and he was in the U.S. military?
Maybe for target practice.
What was his MOS?
55G; Nuclear Weapons Technician?
ping
There are loads of immigrants in the US military. The overwhelming majority serve with honor and distinction and go on the actually earn their citizenship.
Foreign nationals who are legal residents of the US can be in the US military, although, it is my understanding they may not hold jobs that require a security clearance.
There are only 2 military installations in Wichita. McConnell AFB, and Boeings “Black Hole”. He wasnt down there for marching practice.
Why the heck is he being held in the Volusia County Jail? He was arrested at the request of an FBI agent who was trailing his car, based on information the FBI had that he was wanted on immigration violations. This is hardly a county issue, and no way are random county jails equipped to deal with the sensitive security and intelligence issues surrounding a foreign national who’d been serving in the military while in the US illegally.
I didn’t know that. I mean, I didn’t know non-U.S. citizens could serve in the military at all. Excellent that they would be willing to serve their new country this way!
I think it's been done for some time.A Canadian woman I once worked with was married to a fellow Canadian who got his US citizenship through his Army service during the Vietnam era.She wasn't a citizen but had a Green Card due to being married to a US citizen.
How about that - while Americans were heading for Canada during the VN war, your friend’s Canadian husband came down to fight for U.S. citizenship. I wish we would open the borders to more people who would love our country like that.
Is it me or those bumps on his head make it seem like he is about to spout horns?
Send him to Iraq to finish out his term, let him go AWOL there and we dont have to bother with him anymore.
Smyrna...New Smyrna...
Thank you for the ping Velveeta.
AWOL?
Maybe. Maybe not.

“No answers after jailed Iraqi gains release”
Staff Report
SNIPPET: “As Saif N. Rushdi walked out of the Volusia County Branch Jail, there were more questions about the 28-year-old Iraqi citizen than answers.
The native of Baghdad, who also has a New Smyrna Beach address, was arrested Monday afternoon for driving without a valid driver’s license. He was released on $1,500 bail just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, officials said. In addition, a detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for what federal law enforcement officials called an immigration violation was lifted at the same time.
However, whether Rushdi was in violation is in dispute.”
I’ll be darned.
What a strange update.
More questions than answers and apparently we won’t know the answers.
Saif N. Rushdi, a native of Baghdad with a New Smyrna Beach address, was taken into custody during a traffic stop on State Road 44 on Monday afternoon after a member of a federal joint terrorism task force tipped a Volusia County sheriff's deputy to the license infraction.
