Apparently. S&W Holding Corporation is listed on the NASDAQ as SWHC and is US-based, headquartered in Springfield, MA.

I don’t know the criteria, but many classics are absent from the list as others have noted. Really, I agree with 1, 6 and 10 in no particular order, but would replace most the rest.

have you thrown it down in the mud and tried to fire it yet? That is my big test, and I am wondering if anyone has done this..

I must admit I have never tried this test. I have three handguns - a S&W .357 that I bought for myself as a coming of age present about 25 years ago; a S&W .32 revolver that my granddad owned and left to me; and the XD 9mm that my dad bought for me last year. I have long wanted a semi-auto but had felt reticent about the purchase price given other financial obligations for the family. Since my dad wanted to buy the gun for me as a gift, my wife couldn't really object. I am VERY happy with my XD, and one of the things I really like about it is the fact that with my .357 I would have to use my second speed loader before I would have to change the magazine once with the XD.

I too was happy to see the S&W M&P at number 3. I bought the S&W M&P 357sig compact a few months ago. That brings the handgun collection up to 5. Long gun collection stands at 6.

Anyone know the difference between the Colt Python .357 and the Colt King Cobra .357? I thought I had the Python and pull out the box the other day and it is the King Cobra instead in SS with 6” barrel. I haven’t shot in years but planning on starting back up now that the kids are older. Hopefully my carry permit will be approved soon since I justj picked up my new .380 Ruger LCP.

“Is there that much of a difference between a Python and a Trooper Mark III?”

Only if you consider the styling, lockwork, action, fit and finish to be important. The Python was Colt’s top of the line revolver. The Trooper III wasn’t even close.

I would have expected to see at least one Glock too.

Too many accidental discharges.

My only complaint is that it comes with a right-handed holster and I shoot left-handed. Oh well.

The holster that comes with a gun is a decent temporary holster until you find one that you really like. I plan to eventually get a good under the shoulder rig that also has a good holder for the spare magazines.

Anyone know the difference between the Colt Python .357 and the Colt King Cobra .357?

The Python is non-venomous but packs a really mean squeeze?

"Any such list which lacked the Browning HiPower would be worthless."

I have to agree...I always liked its design and ergonomics, but have never been a huge fan of the 9mm. When the HiPower became available in .40, I fell in love...of course the basic CZ design is very heavily influenced by the Browning and I have always liked their goods, too.

The biggest "wow" handgun I ever enjoyed was my .50AE Desert Eagle which fell victim to a divorce :-( I've been keeping my eyes open for a Colt Delta Elite or other quality 10mm, and have always been pretty impressed with that round as well....

“Smith and Wesson is off the $#!+ list for its capitulation and collaboration with the clinton administration on anti-gun regulations now, I guess. Did the british company that had bought them divest?”

The British company sold it years ago and the Company President that made the deal with KKKlinton resigned long ago.

Looking for my next purchase. I like my MKIII a lot. But, it is time to look at a semi. That’s why I lurk these threads.

I agree. I have one on my hip right now and don’t even know it’s there. Fairly easy to take apart and clean as well.

Really, any difference? Value wise? Not that I would sell it.

I would have expected at least one S&W revolver. Say, a 686 perhaps.
