he IBD/TIPP Economic Optimism Index rose 2 points in January to 48.8, the first gain in four months but the sub-50 reading still indicates pessimism. Yet the six-month outlook gauge shot up 5.1 points to 51.8, the first upbeat reading since September.
The defining thing is going to be jobs, jobs, jobs. There is no shying away from that, said Raghavan Mayur, president of TIPP, a unit of TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence, IBDs polling partner. We have a new year and people are hoping that the economy will continue to go, and theyve also been told to wait for mid-2010 for the jobs to come.

Spit in one hand and hope in the other and see which fills up quicker.
Here’s a setup article so next month they can justify using the word “unexpected” in yet another headline.
not gonna happen until after the elections. if the pubbbies pick up 25+ H-seats and 3 or 4 Senate seats, then businesses know Obamunism can be stopped and they’ll start planning accordingly. this assumses no healthcare bill gets thru. If Obamacare goes thru, it’s the beginning of the end of the American way. best case it’s apparent to all by August or so that it’s going to be a 1994ish demhole bloodbath and businesses will start planning accordingly. worst case, dems keep 58 or 59 S seats and H losses are single digits, and Obamacare and cap-and-trade are back on the table, then we’re all screwed. 2009 will look like the good ‘ole days.
