Coakley:there are no terrorists left in Afghanistan(Gee,who killed the 7 CIA Agents then, Martha?)
weekly standard ^ | 1/12/10 | John McCormack

Posted on 01/12/2010 5:42:11 AM PST by bestintxas

On Monday night, Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown sparred for an hour over health care, taxes, terrorism, abortion, and the death penalty. In what was the campaign's final debate and the only one broadcast live in Massachusetts' largest media market, Coakley committed at least one serious gaffe when she said there are no terrorists left in Afghanistan because they've all gone to Yemen or Pakistan. Barack Obama would beg to disagree.

On health care, Brown continued to hammer the congressional Democrats' Medicare cuts and tax hikes—an especially bad deal, he said, for a state that already has a health care plan. In a play for Reagan Democrats, Brown emphasized that the bill is going to tax the health care plans "for good union members who have fought so hard through good-faith bargaining to get those plans." Coakley shot back, alleging that Brown would allow insurance companies to deny coverage for mammograms (Brown had supported reducing the number of mandates to reduce health care costs, though he insisted during the debate that mammograms would be covered under a basic plan).

There’s something wrong with or missing in the system in that these convictions were possible in the first place number one, and number two that so much time could go by after the whole thing unraveled without the perpetrators of all this grief ever having to pay any sort of a personal price for it. Gerald Amirault is apparently out on parole and they made him sign some sort of an oath of silence before letting him out, but society needs some sort of a way to go after the Harshbargers and Cloakeys in the picture.

One common and never ending mistake by the Republican Party cnadidates and their leadership is the failure to link the 2006 control of congress to outcomes that have killed our economy. Ask any citizen about their current credit card rates and you have a p**sed off consumer. Ask them what they pay for gas at the pump and how the congress has killed drilling or refinery work and you have a p**sed off consumer. Ask them how much the democrats spent on the 2008 budget which they did not pass till Obama became president and again an unhappy American. Three simple topics three messages that drive out the RATS!!

“Message to libs: There are bad people on this planet. War is sometimes necessary.”
Yes, indeed. I consider liberals to be “bad people.”

That’s amazing. At 87 she’s recognizing the libs for what they are.

I am hearing rumblings from friends in MA. They’re fed up.

As I said it earlier posts, a lot of MA voters are reluctant to state their views aloud and I suspect the polls underestimate the number of Scott supporters. It wouldn’t surprise me if he wins.

That specific bomber wasn’t (reportedly) in Afghanistan until brought over the border for the meeting...... still, there have been and continue to be plenty of jihad terrorists in Afghanistan

the Globe’s commenters

A bit off topic, but; thank you for that.

The word "commentator" is the most recent addition to my list of words that pi$$ me off.

Geez, these people are so ill prepared to be in office.

They can’t even accept reality.

“I heard her say this and waited for Brown to pounce, but nothing.”

Same here.
I was like “what the heck is this woman smoking, and why did Brown not pick up on that one?”

This is like Gerald Ford saying there are no Soviets in Eastern Europe in the 76 debate with Carter. Comes to mind right away.

You’re absolutely right. Dorothy Rabinowitz wrote the most eloquent pieces on that shameful case, and that shameful case was just one among dozens in the Salem Witch Trial epidemic that swept the country. In an ideal world, THAT case and Martha Coakley’s participation in it could and WOULD be just one among many ways to educate the voters of Massachusetts just WHO this woman is, who happens to be their AG, and who now wants to be their Senator. Just WHAT, you have to ask yourself, is it that prevents the Brown campaign (and any number of others in the past and future) from going ahead and making this one of the weapons in their arsenal?

Really. Perhaps she would care to walk on any street in Kabul wearing modest shorts and a polo shirt. Perhaps she would consider the rocks thrown at her head simple gestures of welcome. If she survived, that is.

One of the problems in MA is that all those liberals have been reading the Boston Globe for decades. They’re not well informed. I’m sure there are some in MA who still think the Amiraults are guilty and Coakley did a great job keeping them in prison.

Well, you’ve just pretty much encapsulated the thinking of what must go in on lots of campaigns like Brown’s. The point I was trying to make already took that into account, yet called for something more: going on the offensive , regardless of how “dumbed-down” we feel the electorate is.
I’ve alway found, if presented in the right way, people generally will accept the truth. You just have to be bold enough to hand it to them.

the countries of Eastern Europe were not dominated by the Soviet Union.

He said "Poland" not "Eastern Europe".

Wikipedia gives me this:

There is no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe — and there never will be under a Ford administration... The United States does not concede that those countries are under the domination of the Soviet Union.
Gaffe in the television debate with Jimmy Carter (6 October 1976)

If you have a competing source, let's see it.
