I knew eventually that the Democratic partys leadership being infiltrated by Mormons would hurt us. I have made clear I believe Mormonism to be a racist, sexist, homophobic, fraudulent, and bizarre cult so if youre coming in late and are astounded that I make no apology for my views, well youre coming in late. Reid is clearly letting his Mormon beliefs override good sense, assuming he has any
Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is making my worst fears a reality. How this man got to be Senate Majority Leader is a mystery to me but he needs to go. Reid is clearly letting his Mormon beliefs override good sense, assuming he has any. By calling on Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich not to appoint an African-American to succeed Barack Obama in the Senate, he is taking the Democratic party into the wacko zone with him.
From Mormonisms earliest years, its leaders believed Africans were cursed descendants of Cain. As such, they were unfit for full participation.
Hey Vinnie...this is just a variation on the anti-Romney theme...it’s site-sanctioned, so there’s no way to get it pulled...magritte
A suppose Adolf Hitler was a Catholic because he went to Catholic school and therefore Catholics should be shunned.

Reductio ad Hitlerum? Sure sign of not being able to carry the debate. Give ME a break!
FWIW, Hitler was not a practicing Catholic as an adult. Reid is STILL an ACTIVE, TEMPLE GOING (meaning VERY faithful - attends meetings, pays tithes, considered “worthy” by his superiors in his annual interview) Mormon.
Why don't we name some of the 'good' Catholics in Congress.
Kennedy
Pelosi
to name 2.
I don't consider them representative of the Catholic Church yet I'll bet they profess to be as much.
I'm disgusted with the Mormon, Catholic, Jew, Protestant bashing that raises its ugly head around here on occasion.
Vinnie, take a little time to examine the structure of mormonism. There are levels of participation that go far deeper than being called Catholic because of schooling. This information is readily available, but the ones you are dissing here know the real deal having come out of the religion and apparently understand its beliefs far better than you have shown. Its OK to learn something new now and again.

It doesn’t matter if YOU consider them to be representative of the Catholic Church, or even if YOU consider Reid to be representative of the LDS. Fact is, at least in Reids case, his spiritual superiors consider him to be a “worthy” LDS member. Their opinion is the one that matters.
So why hasn’t Reid been excommunicated? The LDS are much more aggressive in that then the Catholics are. There is no “defacto excommunication” in the LDS. Your spiritual superiors (Bishop, Stake President, General Authorities, Prophet) are the ones who determine if you are a “good” LDS member. And they consider Reid to be “good, faithful LDS”. If they did not, he would have already been officially excommunicated (called into a “court of love”).
No matter how you slice it, Reid is considered BY HIS OWN CHURCH Leadership to be a “good member”.
BTW, I only speak out against the LDS here on FR, not the Catholics or any other group (although I did get in on the JW thread a few weeks back but that is the first time I have seen a JW thread here).
There are levels of participation [in Mormonism] that go far deeper than being called Catholic because of schooling.

Or even baptism.
In order to be able to attend the temple (renewed annually and Reid has one), a member of the LDS church must meet several requirements on a continuous basis. These include:
Tithing (which must be proved at an annual “tithing settlement” meeting with local leaders)
attendance at meetings
not associating with apostates or apostate groups
living their health code (Word of Wisdom)
being an honorable “priesthood holder”
belief in the Restoration (Mormonism is the only True Church)
support for the President of the Church and other general authorities and local church leaders
obedience to the “Law of Chastity” (strict celibacy outside of a marriage that is legally recognized by the local government, and that is both monogamous and heterosexual)
no affiliation or agreement with polygamists or other people whom the church considers apostates
making a good faith effort to attend church meetings and obey other church rules
keeping the solemn oaths one has previously made in the temple
wearing the temple garment “night and day”
and confession of all serious sins to Church leaders.
In order for Reid to be a “temple” Mormon, he must do all these things and be considered to be a good, faithful Mormon.
First of all, my apologies to JR for pinging him regarding my post if he finds it, or this entire line of posting trite and inane.
To Vinnie: I find it interesting that you are now the arbiter of what is and isn’t “trash”. I do know as an apostate that the posts you refer to here as “trash” are very representative and factual regarding the belief system of the mormons.
And for magritte to take the victim mentality road and claim that it is condoned by FR, therefore Jim Robinson, as anti-mormon without the courtesy ping to Jim Robinson (You are posting about him after all and it is considered proper FR etiquette to ping those you post about.)is immature to say the least.
Just because you disagree about the comparisons being made regarding Reid and what he claims to believe vs. his actual behavior that demonstrate his blatant hypocrisy, the AM should now be induced into shutting down the thread?
If you don’t like this thread or its content, post your own rebutting it in the RF and make it closed to debate. That way, you can have your cake and eat it too without the intrusion of opposing opinions and those pesky facts. Otherwise, might I suggest you quit your bellyaching to the AM.
Btw Vinnie, calling another FReeper “trash” is just plain rude and uncalled for. I would ask the AM to evaluate YOUR post on its merits and decide whether or not you deserve a “time out” for such a childish remark (name calling).
Although I am firmly of the opinion that if Colorcountry wanted to, she would ask the AM herself which she hasn’t. (She’s bigger and better than the so-called FReeper calling her “trash”)

I’ve been here since 1994 and few threads have pissed me off. This one does.
I don’t care what someone’s religion is, within reason.
The idea that you and others are alienating a large portion of FR and a voting block is a huge mistake.
I grew up in the Southern Presbyterian church and saw my share of hypocrites and church goers that were there for the ‘show’ and to further their careers.
What better place for an insurance salesman to get leads than fellow parishioners? Or a politician to get votes? The bigger the church the better.
My brother got screwed by a fellow parishioner Financial advisor.
I don’t denigrate our Church because of it.
I don’t consider Harry Reid to be representative of the LDS.
I’m through with this thread.
Your choice, don't let the door hit ya on the keester on your way out.

Following the call of my Lord to defend the faith is NEVER a mistake.
You imply that I (or others) left because we were wronged by a fellow member and that is why we fight against the LDS. That is simply not true. My fight is not with most Mormons in general (I still several loved ones in the Mormon church), but with their leaders and doctrines.
That you do not consider Reid to be representative of Mormonism, goes to show exactly how little you really know about Mormonism.
Vinnie,
Mormons often inflate their numbers and their value as a voting block. Active Mormons make up approximately 1% of the US population and most of them live in the small electoral States of Utah and Idaho. Many of them are good, villiant, conservatives. Even IF every single one of them always voted Republican (which they absolutely do NOT), they would have no effect whatsoever in the outcome of an election.
Many of them will vote for a man like Harry Reid simply BECAUSE he is one of them.
WHAT is this "large portion of FR"?
There is a very small portion of members of FR that daily pimp Mitt Romney on FR, even though JR has made his opinion of Romney very clear on many threads.
These people will vote for Mitt regardless of the opinions and facts posted here, and they have a mistaken belief that JR is going to never run out of patience with them. Also, voting statistics have shown that mormons will vote mormon, period.
There are definite signs that there has been a shoutout to Romney supporters and mormons to do battle in his favor on FR, and those of us who are former mormons know exactly HOW that is done. The word comes down from the top and is obeyed all through the organization. I imagine there are blogs run by former mormon FReepers who are trying to destroy FR, who are recruiting mormons and mormon sympathizers to crawl out of the woodwork and spit in JR's eye.
Romney is fit to be tied about now because it's apparent that there will be a close look at the mormon church's racist past due to Harry Reid's big mouth, and his handlers are trying to use FR to combat this.
The Inmans aren't going to go away. Deal with it.
Harry Reid's mormonism is Mitt Romney's mormonism!
On Free Republic ? That's MIGHTY interesting.
I was about to ask what this large portion is, too. The Slick Willard kneepads brigades have either been banned or departed FR. As JimRob said, if they want to shill for this Socialist, they can go form their own website (”Wankers for Willard”).
Bingo!
Mitt Romney was 30 yo when his church was still excluding blacks from priestholder status. (Where was Mitt's vocal chords then on this issue?)
And to imagine that some Republicans actually want Mitt to run against the likes of Obama? (You might as well hand the MSM & the Democrats a personal, formal invitation, courtesy of the Republican party, to make the 2011-2012 campaign purely a referendum on racism...
I mean why bother having campaign discussions on taxation, the economy, jobs, socialism, socialized healthcare, and social issues when the drumbeat we'd be giving to the MSM is racism!
a fine example of modern religions feel good, all good sentiment, road to perdition
just out of curiosity - what does "within reason" include, since it obviously doesnt include a re-write of the bible, false prophecy and many many heretical unbiblical practices?
Does Jim Thompson know this?
Don’t hold back grey! (And by the way you are correct.)
So, by extension Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and the late Edward Kennedy represent Catholicism?
Fascinating.
