Vinnie, take a little time to examine the structure of mormonism. There are levels of participation that go far deeper than being called Catholic because of schooling. This information is readily available, but the ones you are dissing here know the real deal having come out of the religion and apparently understand its beliefs far better than you have shown. Its OK to learn something new now and again.

Or even baptism.
In order to be able to attend the temple (renewed annually and Reid has one), a member of the LDS church must meet several requirements on a continuous basis. These include:
Tithing (which must be proved at an annual “tithing settlement” meeting with local leaders)
attendance at meetings
not associating with apostates or apostate groups
living their health code (Word of Wisdom)
being an honorable “priesthood holder”
belief in the Restoration (Mormonism is the only True Church)
support for the President of the Church and other general authorities and local church leaders
obedience to the “Law of Chastity” (strict celibacy outside of a marriage that is legally recognized by the local government, and that is both monogamous and heterosexual)
no affiliation or agreement with polygamists or other people whom the church considers apostates
making a good faith effort to attend church meetings and obey other church rules
keeping the solemn oaths one has previously made in the temple
wearing the temple garment “night and day”
and confession of all serious sins to Church leaders.
In order for Reid to be a “temple” Mormon, he must do all these things and be considered to be a good, faithful Mormon.
I’ve been here since 1994 and few threads have pissed me off. This one does.
I don’t care what someone’s religion is, within reason.
The idea that you and others are alienating a large portion of FR and a voting block is a huge mistake.
I grew up in the Southern Presbyterian church and saw my share of hypocrites and church goers that were there for the ‘show’ and to further their careers.
What better place for an insurance salesman to get leads than fellow parishioners? Or a politician to get votes? The bigger the church the better.
My brother got screwed by a fellow parishioner Financial advisor.
I don’t denigrate our Church because of it.
I don’t consider Harry Reid to be representative of the LDS.
I’m through with this thread.
