A Defense Department review of the shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, has found the doctors overseeing Maj. Nidal Hasan's medical training repeatedly voiced concerns over his strident views on Islam and his inappropriate behavior, yet continued to give him positive performance evaluations that kept him moving through the ranks.
The picture emerging from the review ordered by Defense Secretary Robert Gates is one of supervisors who failed to heed their own warnings about an officer ill-suited to be an Army psychiatrist, according to information examined by investigators conducting the study.
Hasan, 39, is accused of murdering 13 people on Nov. 5 at Fort Hood, the worst killing spree on a U.S. military base.
What remains unclear is why Hasan would be advanced in spite of all the worries over his competence. That is likely to be the subject of a more detailed accounting by the department. Recent statistics show the Army rarely blocks junior officers from promotion, especially in the medical corps.

It was PC....Stop trying to make it something else....
This happens all of the time in the military. I walked in on a soldier ready to commit suicide with his M4 while in Iraq. I promptly took his weapon, unloaded the chamber, and dropped the magazine. I then took him to our First Sergeant who then told the soldier to go punch a bag if he’s down-and-out and then handed the soldier back his weapon. Doing what no soldier EVER wants to do out of fear of paybacks, I jumped over the First Sergeant’s head and went to the chaplain (with the rank of Captain). He promptly found the soldier and removed the bolt and firing pin from his weapon and sent him to Combat Stress. This was just one day after another soldier walked into a Baghdad Combat Stress Center and shot five other soldiers. I wrote my congresswoman who then passed it down my chain-of-command from the Division level downward; our Sergeant Major apologized to me on behalf of the First Sergeant for having to be put in the position to override his decision.
This will only stop when the officers who signed off on this guy at his previous command are court marshalled.
Thanks for having the great courage to do what was right!
He murdered 14 people.
If Scott Peterson can be found guilty of second degree murder of Conner, which I agree with, this pos should be found guilty of murdering 14!
You did good. The kid will phase out, work out and go on to be productive and live a life. The First was just probably a too, for this situation, objective guy. No one can be everything at every time. Sounds like the SM is a good guy.

And they were both into Satan worship!
Notice they still haven't even mentioned his time as an enlisted man.
