John McCains top campaign strategist said in an interview Sunday that Sarah Palin was dishonest as the GOPs vice-presidential nominee and that her untruths have done long-term damage to her public image.
There were numerous instances that she said things that were that were not accurate that ultimately, the campaign had to deal with, said Steve Schmidt in an interview broadcast on CBSs 60 Minutes. And that opened the door to criticism that she was being untruthful and inaccurate. And I think that is something that continues to this day.
Pacing. . mumbling. . hrumphing. . prepare to Fight!
Lying Piece of Schmidt PING!
Good point, Harley.
Palin is a punching bag for the Dems and the GOP establishment.
So why didn't Schmidt quit the campaign if he thought Sarah had trouble with the truth?!
We know John McCain has trouble with the truth! He isn't trashing him!
Do you think he has McCain’s blessing? This does not help McCain one bit in his reelection. He is underestimating how much the AZ base likes Palin and how much they are tired of him. Although, all he has to do is listen. I was at a townhall with McCain a few months ago. MOst of the attendees point blank tol McCain they were not going to vote for him. Respectfully, of course.
well I’m glad that the mysterious “anonymous” source we’ve been hearing about for the past year finally has a name.
So now it comes down to the credibility of Steve Schmidt vs. the credibility of Sarah Palin.
And then you get this interview, and you're suspicions are confirmed. He is an arrogant jerk.
That’s true....how many rats eat their own like this? STUPID STUPID STUPID
bump tagline on post 2 and all of post 3.
Palin: Schmidt has trouble running a campaign.
I didn’t put the Romney keywords in. I don’t know who’s doing it.
I agree, although not the only one. Establishment approved.
I knew it wasn’t you.
I suspect that with the Packers-Cardinals football game going into OT almost no one saw this. Steve Schmidt is a pretty slimmy dude. He berated Sarah Palin for not bowing down the Charles Darwin. Schmidt is clearly a bully and a christian-hater as well as a loser in more ways than one. They wouldn’t let Palin do anything to try to win in 2008. They tried to frame her on the so-called wardrobe scandal.
Perhaps if Steve Schmidt and others on the campaign had worked as hard to smear Obama, McCain would have won, but nah, was much easier for them to trash Sarah Palin then go after Obama, after all, he was off limits, so cute and hip like, cant go after him. God Forbid the McCain campaign had grown some balls and gone after the REAL enemy..but McCain was too busy saying what a great President Obama will be. Schmidt has destroyed every campaign he has ever worked on
In an interview with the CBS news magazine “60 Minutes,” Steve Schmidt described Palin as “very calm - nonplussed” after McCain met with her at his Arizona ranch just before putting her on the Republican ticket. McCain had planned to name Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., as his vice presidential choice until word leaked, sparking what Schmidt called political blowback over picking the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee.
Schmidt said he asked Palin about her serenity in the face of becoming “one of the most famous people in the world.” He quoted her as saying, “It’s God’s plan.”
“There were numerous instances that she said things that were - that were not accurate that, ultimately, the campaign had to deal with. And that opened the door to criticism that she was being untruthful and inaccurate. And I think that that is something that continues to this day,” he said.
Palin’s spokeswoman, Meg Stapleton, has disputed the version of events presented in the reporters’ book.
“The governor’s descriptions of these events are found in her book, ‘Going Rogue.’ Her descriptions are accurate,” Stapleton said in a statement to “60 Minutes.” Stapleton added: “She was there. These reporters were not.”
