An unfortunate percentage of cops believe they’re among the only ones that should be allowed to carry firearms.
They ruin it for the good cops.
Beer summit would have ensued.
Yet another reason why women should not be cops.
We have been moving in this direction for a while. Handcuffed for an hour to “make the officer feel safe” with absolutely no reason for the officer to feel unsafe. Just general principles. An hour makes it an arrest, as I understand it, and it becomes a false arrest because there was no reason for it.
There is a solution for this. The next time this happens, call the police, report the break in, but inform dispatch that any officer responding will need to lock their firearms in the car before being allowed onto the property.
I live in a conservative county in CA and ccw permits are common here. While they are issued by the local elected sherrif, they are actually state permits and should be good anywhere in the state. I’ve had mine for 10 years and have had a few encounters with the police here and have never had a problem, but carrying legally with a permit in some of the typically liberal areas of CA, it is quite a different story.
This gal is an embarrassment. Somebody needs to suggest that she get another job—maybe washing dishes at the local greasy spoon.
Among other abuses of power this bitch engaged in sexual harassment.
If this female LEO is so unsure of herself, why is she riding alone? Shouldn’t she still be in a trainee role, riding with an experienced officer?
The victim in this had already provided ID and the CCW permit docs. LEO’s best bet would be to keep space, inform the subject to not touch his firearm during the interview, and proceed with her questions; while maintaining an eye on the building, which may still have the B&E perps inside.
Just sayin’...
I’m going to make the suggestion that Mr. Suprynowicz is not telling us the entire story here.
Mitchener should consider himself lucky. Once the cuffs were on I’m surprised this jack-booted thug copette didn’t Taze him.
Seems like tazing is part of their way of dealing with many situations any more.
I used to be very supportive of the police but I have lost faith in the system. They’re just one more unknown that has to to be dealt with.
This might also have taught him not to volunteer information. If they don’t ask, don’t tell.
If these arrogant, uniformed employees of ours really want to treat us as the enemy, they may eventually get their wish, at which point they will discover they're vastly outnumbered -- and "backup" is never quite close enough to solve the problem they've created for themselves.
I wish
.
The treatment a citizen receives when presenting a legal permit like this is too important to be left to the discretion of an individual officer.
Just my two cents worth.
And cops wonder why even honest citizens do not trust them????
This cop should be fired.
With the police saying they do not dispute Mr. Mitchener’s story it is a stretch to absolve the officers action. There is a point on the officers lack of physical , I work as a firefighter , we have women in our battalion guess who carries the heaviest ladders, the most hose etc and on and on....
It never fails, give a small mind power and you still have a small mind. Maybe this “little” person that feels so uncomfortable in the presence of another weapon she should find another line of work. I for one am fed up with the caliber of officer we have to deal with today. Too many joined the force only for the power, so if that feeling is threatened they have to react in the way this officer reacted. Doesn’t give me any comfort to know that this is the way of the world today!

This is precisely the reason I will not get a CCW. I also buy all of my firearms from private parties. I do not want the government to know what I have and if I am armed or not. The older I get the more distrustful of ANYONE in our government or employed by our government.
If the gun’s locked in the patrol car why the handcuffs?
