Handcuffed, disarmed for obeying the law
Las Vegaas Review-Journal ^ | 10 jan 10 | Vin Suprynowicz

Posted on 01/10/2010 6:53:26 AM PST by rellimpank

Charlie Mitchener is a 61-year-old general building contractor with an office near Patrick Lane and Fort Apache Road in Las Vegas. He holds permits allowing him to legally carry concealed weapons in Nevada, Florida and Utah.

Over the past three years, his office has been broken into five times. "Three of those occasions involved me interacting with Metro," he wrote to me recently. "Each of the occasions began the same: my introduction, my presentation of my Nevada drivers license and my concealed firearms permit. Prior to today, each Metro officer simply replied thank you, proceeded with his work and then when complete there was a conversation about firearms."

Things were real different at 5:30 a.m, Jan. 3, however, when Mr. Mitchener called Metro to report the fifth break-in at his office.

"Vin, I hope I did not see the future this morning," Charlie e-mailed me. "Today was drastically different."

The responding officer was a lady cop, officer J. Rogers, badge number 13525.

"Upon presentation of my (firearms permit), the officer asked if I had the weapon on me to which I replied yes. She then said to spread my legs and put my hands behind my back. I complied and she then handcuffed me. While doing so, she said that she wanted to make certain 'that we were all safe.' "

Officer Rogers stripped Mr. Mitchener of the Glock 19 he was carrying, took the weapon and locked it in her patrol car.

It never fails, give a small mind power and you still have a small mind. Maybe this “little” person that feels so uncomfortable in the presence of another weapon she should find another line of work. I for one am fed up with the caliber of officer we have to deal with today. Too many joined the force only for the power, so if that feeling is threatened they have to react in the way this officer reacted. Doesn’t give me any comfort to know that this is the way of the world today!

I’m going to make the suggestion that Mr. Suprynowicz is not telling us the entire story here.

OK. I'm going to make the suggestion that you are doing so as a defensive knee-jerk reaction without any grounds whatsoever. Just a gut feeling. And what is your suggestion based on?

p.s. and there are always two sides to every story.

There is only one set of facts. This "two-sides to every story" line suggests that all people lie and thus the truth lies somewhere in the middle. This in itself is a great miscarriage of justice.

Let's try your approach. I say you owe my $10,000. What do you say? How about we fall back on the truth being somewhere in the middle and you send me a check for $5000?

“Yet another reason why women should not be cops.”

I agree.

Many years ago (1970’s) I dated a woman cop from San Clemente. She had HUGE mental problems.

Unfortunately it is not a small minority, most cops (at least at Metro) believe citizens shoul be stripped of their right to bear arms. They do not give a fig about the constitution.

This is precisely the reason I will not get a CCW. I also buy all of my firearms from private parties. I do not want the government to know what I have and if I am armed or not. The older I get the more distrustful of ANYONE in our government or employed by our government.

How about you are a cop and I am an irate, armed business owner in your face yelling that you are a worthless piece of crap not doing your job, etc, etc,. You know I am armed and have told me to settle down and I don’t... What do you do?

I frankly don’t have a problem with her asking the guy to remove his firearm...after that, if she handcuffed him for no reason apparent in the report, she should be administratively dealt with...a suspension is in order for sure and she should be given a course in victims rights. What she did was in effect was to attack a VICTIM.

One hour in handcuffs? That is beyond extreme. Even if the guy was arrested and transported to the lock up, he would not have shackles on that long unless he were unrully or a danger to himself or others.

I would love to see the dash cam on this one, if one is available along with hearing the audio.

Bozo was NOT brilliant on the campaign trail. He was covered over by the MSM, had the media not been behind him 100% he would have failed miserably. It is easy to look good when the media is singing your praises. Had Bozo been white, even with the media backup, he would not have been elected.

I contacted Metro about this incident Tuesday. Late Friday, a spokesman confirmed Mr. Mitchener's account as "generally accurate,"

So the police back Mitchener's story, then what is being left out?

I just emailed both sites listed as contacts on the Las Vegas Police dept site, asking why

They need a hailstorm of outrage from every one of us. If you don't complain and demand correction, you deserve whatever police state you get.

While you're at it, folks, send a copy to your local pd and ask whether they have proper guidelines for such situations.

If the gun’s locked in the patrol car why the handcuffs?

If the owner had been unarmed, would she have cuffed him because he was ‘bigger’ than she was and she would feel safer?

An armed officer is typically useless and unnecessary in an after-the-fact burglary.
All that is needed is a clerical-type person to drop by and
fill out a report so that it can be filed with an insurance claim;
just to provide documentation that a window or door was broken
and/or a computer was stolen or whatever.
There will be little or no investigation done and
little or no attempt made to locate or apprehend the burglar.
I have had burglaries, vandalism, and cars broken into on my property;
If there is damage done that exceeds my deductible,
I just deal with my insurance adjuster.
I have never bothered to call a cop.
Why should I?
Nothing good can come of it.
