The Jordanian doctor arrived in a red station wagon that came directly from Pakistan and sped through checkpoints at a CIA base in Afghanistan before stopping abruptly at an improvised interrogation center. Outside stood one of the CIA's top experts on al-Qaeda, ready to greet the doctor and hear him describe a way to kill Ayman al-Zawahiri, the organization's No. 2 and a man long at the top of U.S. target lists.
The Jordanian exited the car with one hand in his pocket, according to the accounts of several U.S. officials briefed on the incident. An American security guard approached him to conduct a pat-down search and asked him to remove his hand. Instead, the Jordanian triggered a switch.
A sharp "CLMMMP" sound coincided with a brief flash and a small puff of smoke as thousands of steel pellets shredded glass, metal, cement and flesh in every direction.
A moment that CIA officials in Washington and Afghanistan had hoped would lead to a significant breakthrough in the fight against al-Qaeda instead became the most grievous single blow against the agency in the counterterror war.
Virtually everyone within sight of the suicide blast died immediately, including the al-Qaeda expert, who led the CIA team at the base; a 30-year-old analyst; and three other officers. Also killed were two American security guards contracted by the agency, a Jordanian intelligence officer and the car's driver. At least six others standing in the carport and nearby, including the CIA's second in command in Afghanistan, were wounded by pellets that had first perforated the vehicle.

That sounds like a very sophisticated and effective bomb. One wonders where they got that design and material? The ISSI? Tehran?
Nope.
It came from the movie SWORDFISH.
Only the most gifted bomb makers need apply.
All AlQaida has in this is a modification of a well known process. They probably can't even get a patent on it.
They have definitely degraded the apparent intelligence value of Middle Eastern doctors and moderate Jordanian Moslems.
Thanks...
I hate to say it but there are one hell of a lot of mines buried in Afghan soil. These clowns don’t have to try to be creative with sophisticated devices, just strap a mine to one’s waist and push the detonator button.
Thanks Ernest.
Was she unaware that al-Qaeda uses suicide bombers? At this point her expertise appears to have been somewhat less than world-class.
"It's not sloppiness," this former official added. "We just don't have time for it. Who wants to be known as the guy who turned away the tip that could have helped us get Osama bin Laden?"
I'm glad this person is a former official. I would hate to think he or she was currently in a position of responsibility.
Of course it was sloppiness. There was no need to turn the source away. The CIA might have impressed the source with their professionalism by behaving like professionals.
US spies walked into al-Qaeda’s trap

The bomber was a member of the ANA?
The bomb happened in a gym?
It's like dualing press releases....
Thanks. I was just joking, anyway.
Man has been very inventive in finding ways to kill other men, and the producers of SWORDFISH weren’t the first to figure out how to make highly effective anti-personnel devices.
For the terrorists, IT IS ALL THEY DO. ALL DAY, EVERY DAY.
Which explains why they have a lot of premature explosions.
The true story is that they were just about to search him, but not for explosives. He had his hand in his pocket, on the trigger, and he pulled it.
Others hopefully will learn next time to never put their trust in an Islamist.
The woman in charge of this operation thought she was going to make her mark in the history books (and, she did). She was going to be personally responsible for capturing or killing one of the biggest terrorists on the planet.
THE LESSON: If it sounds too good to be true, there's likely a reason.
Sounds good to me.
Anything coming out of the muslim world always seems to have twists and counter twists. One hardly knows when to believe something is accurate.
Did you see #11?
So based on what we read in post #11. Is this to imply that this is all some kind of cover up. There is no mention of the Jordanian doctor, and the Jordanian Intel person that was supposedly working with the CIA on operations in Kost. Smells fishy to me. With that. My eyeballs are starting to swim... no pun meant (fishy.... swim), time to hit the rack for another day at the zoo. The cold weather does not seem to keep the good folks from coming in and ransacking my store. Got to more days before a break.
