That sounds like a very sophisticated and effective bomb. One wonders where they got that design and material? The ISSI? Tehran?

I hate to say it but there are one hell of a lot of mines buried in Afghan soil. These clowns don’t have to try to be creative with sophisticated devices, just strap a mine to one’s waist and push the detonator button.

"...the CIA had a world-class expert on al-Qaeda and counterterrorism operations running the place." Was she unaware that al-Qaeda uses suicide bombers? At this point her expertise appears to have been somewhat less than world-class.
"It's not sloppiness," this former official added. "We just don't have time for it. Who wants to be known as the guy who turned away the tip that could have helped us get Osama bin Laden?"
I'm glad this person is a former official. I would hate to think he or she was currently in a position of responsibility.
Of course it was sloppiness. There was no need to turn the source away. The CIA might have impressed the source with their professionalism by behaving like professionals.

When the Agency is involved you will never get the true story on how the bombing actually occurred. My guess is that they were in a room gathered around the 'informant' and all anticipating to debrief him. They did not want to offend him and turn his cooperation off by conducting a body search and this is what they got. Others hopefully will learn next time to never put their trust in an Islamist.
