“So what to make, then, of the fact that Beck has had his own minor tax problems over the past few years? “

Nothing. He’s a celebrity. He doesn’t make public policy.

Beck has a target on his back.

Of course the 0 people are coming after him for any infraction they can find. I’m more concerned for his personal safety, considering the problems he has caused — and is causing — for this administration.

That said, there’s a big difference between a nominee for Treasury Secretary who runs up a BIG tax bill and a talk show host with admittedly minor glitches.

I suspect the incidence of tax problems rises with income. It doesn’t mean that rich folks are dishonest, only that they have more money and it becomes harder to keep track of.

Last time I checked Beck wasn’t being proposed for a job in the government or running for public office.....

Last time I checked Beck didn't have the power to send armed goons to take my property at the point of a gun, while terrorizing my family and shooting my dog.

Beck isn’t the TREASURY secretary, Geitner’s in charge of taxes. It seems like he would know the tax code.

I’m trying to understand... Is Glenn Beck running for Treasury Secretary?

Beck sarcastically intoned: “Oh, the tax thing, it was an accident. It was my husband's fault.

Beck has a husband now?

...his production company, Mercury Radio Arts, has at times struggled to keep up with the heightened tax and filing demands accompanying his success.

For which I would be inclined to give him some slack. Because Beck is in favor of making the taxes simpler and smaller. While those he criticizes for not paying their taxes are all for making it more larger and more far reaching. And in some cases are bald face liars about it.

Common decency would suggest the following guide lines for criticism:

1) If you are a bald face tax cheat...you are open to criticism no matter what your position.

2) If you are promoting a more complex and far reaching tax system, then you are open to criticism if you mess up on your taxes because the system is already so complex.

3) If you are critic of the overtly complex tax system, its hardly fair game to criticize you if you mess up your taxes because of that complexity.

Just ONE more reason to abolish the IRS and the income tax.

We could eliminate a LOT of problems in this country if simply did it.

I suppose that once Glenn Beck discovered a tax problem he would pay the taxes and fire the accounting firm that handles his business.

However he would not, ignore his problems, lie about them, and when caught would avoid paying paying the taxes while blaming everyone else for his problems. I doubt he would play the victim card.

I do not like to watch Beck, but he is not an elected official or government employee with any control over our money or liberty. Yawn.

Considering that the IRS cannot even give consistently correct answers on their help line it is no wonder that some people have tax return problems.

Too true. Beck has a target on his back! Remember Rush got out of N.Y. because his tax returns were audited every dang year and kept incurring huge fees for having to “lawyer up” over and above his ever increasing humongous taxes. I also recall Nixon was well known for having his enemies audited. It’s, no doubt in my mind, govt harrassment.

Check page 2 of the article. The three examples offered (and it’s a given that they are the worst and possibly the only ones available) are some pretty weak cheese. The description of the resolution of each problem shows that they were trivial matters.

I agree wholeheartedly with earlier posts — this is nothing but a hit piece, and a fairly desperate one.
