Happy Birthday Elvis, we miss you still!
I knew that there must be some personal reason behind your animosity. Sorry about your brother man, but geeze...
“I guess the bottom line for me is that, yes, he was an addict, but the way he got hooked into it is much more understandable to me than someone doing lines of coke just for recreation.”
In the life of a junkie, in rehab or in the morgue there is no difference between the junkie who is hooked on prescription drugs or the junkie that is shooting H in a back alley.
It is not animosity.
Instead, it is a understanding that those who become drug addicts do so by their own free will and weakness, while others can do drugs recreationally and lead productive lives without killing themselves.
My sister was born on 1/8/43 exactly eight years after The Big E. When we were kids her room was plastered on all four walls with Elvis pics, posters and record sleeves.
She died July 7, 2009 of pancreatic cancer, six weeks from diagnosis to checkout. I miss her more than I miss Elvis.
That said, it can not be denied that Elvis is everywhere.
Sorry to hear about your sister.
And anyone who knows Mojo Nixon is alright with me.
We went to a shopping mall
And laughed at all the shoppers
And security guards trailed us to a record shop
We asked for Mojo Nixon
They said he don’t work here
We said if you don’t got Mojo Nixon then your store could use some fixin
Notice I did say, Elvis allowed his handlers to dictate to him. That’s one of the problems of being a celebrity and having people around you. Everyone is your friend until something goes wrong. I think he knew he had problems and he may have wanted to straighten things out, but he let the people around him tell him what to do and he did it.
He should have said no, but he did not.
Elvis had a beautiful voice, but he never learned to sing as well as he might. His earlier work was better than the later stuff. But he was a great performer.
[75th Birthday]
I have this uncanny gift to tell how many birthdays everyone in the world will have...ONE.

The gorgeous Ann Margaret was my favorite of the Elvis girls.
And, Boy Howdy, the King sure was surrounded by a multitude of beautiful women in his movies.
