Blumenthal is a bigger Nanny-statist than Bloomberg
What's with all this leg-up grooming of State Attorney General's?
Blumenthal in CT and Coakly in Massachusetts
he can if someone had some guts, unlike Bush about Clinton...
Blumenthal announced on Squawk Box this AM (CNBC) that he was running for Senate. Official announcement at 2:30pm today.
Headed for the Klavern in the sky.

It’s the lead up to Roy’s swing at the final pitch.
Virtue wins in this movie. I hope it wins with Schiff.
what’s that they say, “it’s better to step aside than to be thrown under the bus”?
Chris “Countrywide” Dodd, he and Angelo “Tan Man” Mozillo will have long lucrative retirements.
Ive noticed this alot. There is a news blackout on Schiff.
He wasn't gonna be elected Senator again so why would he think he could be elected Governor? They forced him out so they could hold the seat.
I do not think this dooms GOP chances, a damaged Dodd running is much better than an open seat but there is still an opportunity, "Republicans" may win in rat leaning DE and IL open seats, why not CT.
However now it's a tossup at best.
Did he jump, or was he pushed?
Good question!!!
I was thinking more along lines of Nurenberg trials, Ropes and the 14th street bridge or Guillotine.
What about “weekend at Bernie’s” Lautenberg in NJ?
the Eliot Spitzer of CT.
Exactly
I’m in DE now, but there was talk recently of LAutenberg resigning before Christie is inaugarated, so Corzine could appoint himself or someone else as the new Senator from NJ.
If that happens, I hope Christie doesn’t fall for that.
After Christie is inaugarated, if “Bernie” gets the call from his Maker, Christie can appoint a GOP Senator in his place.
Dropping popularity aside, the reason they’re retiring now is that they’ll still have plenty of time in DC to cast a YEA vote for health care, card check and cap and trade. Then they don’t have to go home and face the soaring number of voters opposed to each of these. They want to inflict permanent damage to this country on the way out. They are political suicide bombers yelling “Death to freedom!!” before they blow up their political careeers.
They're setting themselves up to vote for health care and all this other garbage Obama is trying to force on us, on the way out. If these issues comes up for a vote before their terms expire, they'll vote for it all and not have to deal with the consequences later.

Blumenthal can be beat, as DJ has pointed out, but it will be an uphill effort. Perhaps the worst part about Dodd dropping out is that it may no longer be wise to support a second-tier Republican challenger in the primary, given that while we could argue that it would not take a first-tier opponent to defeat Dodd (who had as many people voting against him than people voting for the Republican) we cannot argue as much with a straight face against Blumenthal. We pretty much need Rob Simmons to be our nominee, not because he’s “the right kind of Republican for liberal Connecticut (I would support Simmons far more strongly if he was more conservative), but because as a recent 3-term Congressman with proven ability to win votes in a liberal district comprising 20% of the state’s electorate he has the right type of profile to stand up against an experienced politician such as Blumenthal. Besides, it’s not like the other GOP candidates are much less liberal than Simmons (well, Schiff is on economic issues, but not on anything else).
I didn’t know Blumenthal was THAT popular. Just like how Spitzer was huh? Yuk.
Still I find it hard to believe he would win by 30 points.
I’d still rather Schiff win the primary even if Simmons is the most likely to have a chance.
