Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (Conn.), a leading Democrat whose political star fell along with the nation's economy, is expected to announce Wednesday that he has decided against running for reelection this November, according to sources briefed on the decision. Dodd, in his fifth term, chairs the Senate Banking Committee. His retirement would be the second such announcement by a Senate Democrat in 24 hours; North Dakota's Byron Dorgan said Tuesday that he would not run this fall.

If Dodd wants to hold the seat for a demrat he needs to simply finish out his term. I did not see where he said he was retiring now or anytime before his term ends.
If he should retire early, and the governor appoints a demrat place holder, it would give that person a chance to win over the voters. So I guess that makes some sense. On the other hand, the way Onada and the demrats are going full speed ahead downhill, one wonders if demrat candidates as a whole will not be caught in voter crossfire.
I may be precipitous, but I think these demrat retirements/resignations indicate Onada does not have the votes for Onadacare.
Concur. This means conservatves have to make the election anti-Dem vice anti-incumbent. i.e. do you really want two more years of Pelosi running the country? Do you want amnesty forced down your throat, with new gun laws, ammo restrictions, gay-marriage and more uncontrolled spending followed by higher taxes. Tea partiers, I suspect we are in a fight. Especially if Rahmn “capo” Emanuel runs for Senate in Illinois.
You know KNOW what Bela has in her fist!
Announcing it now gives time for the party to select a new candidate, get petitions signed, establish a campaign organization etc. in time for the primaries.
I half expect Specter to do the same in Pennsylvania. He has zero chance of being reelected in November, and I doubt that he can even survive a Democrat primary fight. But Specter is a very weird dude. You never know what he will do. I'd love to see a nasty Democrat primary where they both spend all of their money ripping each other's guts out. ;~))
Heat.. kitchen.. yada yada..
The first major rats are jumping the ship .. many many more to follow.
The ‘Rats may have to recruit Michael Moore and Bill

No sane person would want to have a D by their name on a
November 2010 ballot..
D is for Doomed.
Listening to him brings forth the following words.
Egotistical Blowhard that believes his own lies.
Handwriting on the wall!
I am worried, too. The socialists determined to take this country down are not fools. They very probably have a BIG PICTURE plan and that includes these old goats stepping down. The ones retiring are retiring but they have their cushy wealthy retirement plans to fall back on. They don’t need to have their “jobs” in order to live....they can live quite well without being re-elected. This does, indeed, bother me very much. Now we can’t vote these incumbents out and we have no one to wag our fingers at...we now have new “enemies” just waiting to jump in...look how Obama took down Hillary....I’m afraid people are going to fall for it all over again...only worse.
Makes you wonder about all the dollar collapse chatter.
Yep!
Yes.. and I think this is being well orchestrated.
shocking /s
(although with Dorgan and Dodd both annoucing SOOOO close together it makes me wonder whats coming down the pipeline newswise for Bank of America (since it bought out Countrywide))
just a little suspicious...
********
Senators Dorgan and Dodd should morally do the right thing and abstain form voting on the Obama health care bill, if they are not running for re-election in Nov. 2010.
Wonder what the commies(D) are contemplating?
I don’t even want to think of where that fist has BEEN...
When the government declares bankruptcy we can strip his pension.
Senator Stuart Smalley (moron) Minn.
He seemed sober, but it was still early for him to already be loaded.
Nearly puked as I heard his speech.
Never a mention of how his position endowed him with incredible gifts of cultivating corruption.
Good news bump.
