Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (Conn.), a leading Democrat whose political star fell along with the nation's economy, is expected to announce Wednesday that he has decided against running for reelection this November, according to sources briefed on the decision. Dodd, in his fifth term, chairs the Senate Banking Committee. His retirement would be the second such announcement by a Senate Democrat in 24 hours; North Dakota's Byron Dorgan said Tuesday that he would not run this fall.

and the people of ct. will just elect another democrat and some democrat in the senate will be promoted to fill dodd’s position in the banking committee... life goes on and nothing changes.

http://banking.senate.gov/public/

the news of the day would be that of chris being investigated and prosecuted for his deal with Countrywide

i agree, something must be going on: dodd is losing in the polls and the senate don’t want a “well-known” democrat to lose the election which will be a sure sign that NoBama may lose in 2012...

Correct. If the CT AG Blumenthal runs, he’ll likely win.

I don’t see this Senate seat flipping to GOP.

What's up with that is the demoncraps know that if obama allows for another free election to occur in this country (I still think he's going to create a reason to declare martial law) they will lose total control of Capitol Hill and eventually the White House for a very, very, very long time. This way, if the perps retire with all the kickbacks they are going to receive some fresh young communist piece of crap demoncrap can step up and claim, as obama did, not to be a low-life, anti-American, progressive piece of crap and the gullible majority in their party will believe them and elect them instead of a more Conservative member of another party.

Simple!

Basically guarantees a Democrat Senator win now. Smart move by the Democrats because he was not only going to lose, but his ethical problem would have been highlighted as part of a bigger theme against Democrats

I agree with you. I suspect this will be a coming trend for dems to try to ward off a larger GOP victory.

Take the most vulnerable dems, force them out, work on a new "repackaged" dem candidate to replace him. Voters get their "change" and can still vote for a dem. Dems claim a continued "mandate" from the people.

Perhaps there’s something on a more global scale that’s on the horizon?

Obama doesn't have the popularity for his “civilian army” to have much effect. His economy is tanking, with no recovery in sight (”unexpected” bad news aside), and people will soon be dealing with inflation, although I think it's already starting, since the price of bread an milk has raised roughly 50% here in the Portland area over the past three months.

Obama is an extremely unpopular President considering his limited tenure thus far, and he shows almost zero signs of true charismatic leadership. He simply is a beta male, and beta males end up getting trampled. We should all give thanks that he is a beta male, because if the Marxists had picked the correct vessel, our future would be much more dismal.

I’d like to see Dodd questioned, under oath, before a GOP majority. If he would have won in 2010, 2012 and beyond would have been a nightmare for him.

With Ted Kennedy dead and buried, his days of teaming with the porker to make “waitress sandwiches” are over.

And having escaped conviction on one corruption probe, he doesn’t want to be in the area for further inquiry when the GOP takes back Congress.

Steele’s too busy trying to figure out a way to run Dede Scozzafava for Gillibrand’s NY Senate seat.

Ping. I find the Dodd announcement interesting because I can’t figure out why he’s announcing it now. Thoughts anybody?

Soon he’ll be making waitress sandwiches again with his homey Teddy...they’ll probably be some kind of barbeque sandwiches.

With Bela Abzug?

He knows the people in CT have had it with him after the Countrywide kickbacks he took. He knows he would lose to a Republican in November. So by backing out now, he gives someone else a chance to hold the seat for the Democrats.

The Obamunist scorched-earth strategy towards achieving U.S. fasco-socialism continues to unfold. Indeed, as many have forecast, Dims are being sacrificed. However, it’s now clear the sacrifice has not been unwitting. What we now are witnessing is that the sacrifice has been deliberate and knowing political suicide, rather than a naive throwing-under-the-bus.

The brilliance of this strategy is that there’s a good chance the Obamunists can have their cake and eat it too. There will no longer be a plethora of wildly unpopular incumbent Dims upon which the wrath of the electorate can be unleashed by voting in protest for the “other guy”.

Instead, the Dims are simply retiring the hated incumbents and running new candidates without any baggage. Even better, they can handpick those most amenable to their fasco-socialist aims, though of course, as with Obama himself, they’ll be trotted out as middle-of-the-road candidates. Instead of a passel of pariahs, the Obamunists will have a brand new shiny bunch of wolves dressed in sheep’s clothing all ready to continue to perpetuate Obamunism.

I can only hope and pray the electorate does not fall for these latest Obamunist tricks.

This is actually bad news for our side...Dodd was dead man walking in a deep blue state. The popular Demo AG already pounced about running to replace. FU Dodd.

I am concerned that this is Dem election plan. Sweet job for stepping down so the Dems can field a clean candidate making the seat more competitive.
