CNN reported that Li Jingchao's mother, Zhao Guilu, said she was washing dishes in another room when she heard her son cry out.
"I rushed in and saw him lying on the ground. He couldn't stop crying ... and I noticed a chopstick stuck in his nose," she said.
A local doctor warned that removing the utensil could cause massive bleeding.
Because the family lives 1,000 miles from Beijing, they had to make a 10-hour drive to a hospital. When they arrived, the boy had a fever, was delirious and half his body was paralyzed.
During brain surgery, the chopstick came out, without causing major bleeding.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Sun Wei said the boy was lucky.
"If the chopstick had gone any further into the brain, it could have caused massive bleeding, if it had gone a little to either side, he may have been permanently paralyzed ... The position of the chopstick is very, very lucky for him," he told CNN.
Are they sure that it wasn’t a zombie who had a hankering for some Chinese takeout?
FRANK: It was a million to one shot, Doc. Million to one.
Good thing it’s wasn’t a FORK!
Another senseless chopstick tragedy...

1000 miles in 10 hours?
That’s darn good time!

If only there was a law.
I’ll have to show this one to my son Chris, age 8, AKA “Runs With Pencil”
Wow, 100mph with no stops. They now have better cars than we do.
averaging 100 miles an hour?
Great—Harry Reid will have to add another paragraph to the healthcare bill denying coverage for self-inflicted chopstick injuries!
What an absolutely HORRIBLE story! Can you imagine driving 10 hours in a car with your son in pain, paralyzed, with a fever and delirious and being so so careful not do dislodge the stick in his nose for fear it may cause fatal bleeding?
We are so blessed.
thats what i was thinking....
My thoughts exactly...
I suspect that it was too far in to remove easily anyhow, but I would think a ten hour drive with that in place could have caused more trauma than if they had pulled it out.
A chopstick in the brain and the doctor considers him “very very lucky?”
Lucky would have been a chopstick in the brain and having a vision of the winning Mega-ball numbers....
We were......until Harry Reid, Pelosi and Obama came on the scene.
And I agree that this story is horrible. Poor kid. Hope he's allright. Terrible to be that far from urgent care. Unbelievable....
“Ooooh....troll bogeys”
The worst part was that he didn’t even get a fortune cookie.
