Democrats Considering Health Care-Immigration Deal To Overcome Key Sticking Point

Lawmakers who want to extend health coverage to illegal immigrants will not block the passage of the final health care reform bill so long as the White House offers a substantive promise to start pushing comprehensive immigration legislation this year.

Democrats who want a comprehensive bill that reforms immigration law but also offers a pathway to citizenship have threatened to vote against health care if illegals aren't included in the new system, making immigration one of the sticking points as Democratic leaders negotiate the final details.

Democratic leadership aides believe that a firm White House promise of a comprehensive immigration bill will be enough to quell any House dissent.

TPMDC sources have been telling us that members won't admit it publicly but they are ready to concede on immigration in the health care bill. Political aides in the White House have told key parties in Congress that President Obama wants to see a bill this year, and negotiations are under way for how it would be written.

A source familiar with the negotiations between Congress and the White House told TPMDC the Congressional Hispanic Caucus will demand an agreement from Obama that health care coverage for illegals who earn a path to citizenship will be addressed in an immigration bill.

The Senate's health care bill bars illegals from any sort of coverage, a provision embraced after Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) shouted "You lie!" during Obama's address to Congress when the president said that illegals would not be able to get health care under the legislation.

OK amy MA Freepers, here's your chance to step up. Get anyone up there who'll listen to vote for Scott Brown for "The swimmer's" seat. It's our best hope of derailing this thing, or at least throwing a speed bump in its path.

I, for one, do not believe that anything controversial can pass in 2010. Immigration Reform won’t come in time to prevent the neutering of congress and the senate.

Or we need to forcibly take back our country as we are given that right & duty in the Declaration of Independence "That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government laying its foundation on such principles" of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

We need an American Revolution II to throw out the scoundrels (demoRATs & 0bozo especially) out of Washington and into prison for committing high crimes & treason against the U.S. Or we need some 8-10 states led by Texas & Oklahoma, to secede from the Union and start a new country founded on our original Declaration of Independence and our Constitution as originally intended. And dare the rat bastard liberals & 0bozo to stop them. Can anyone imagine the 54th regiment of faggots from Massachusetts or hippies from Vermont marching off to stop a genuine revolution of independence, or secession by 8-10 states? Well, it looks like Joe was right, doesn't it? Not that we didn't already know that.

The Dems are desperate to get everything passed that they can while they still have control of the Senate, the House, and the Executive, and in a form that will make it difficult or impossible to undo should control of one of those be lost. Yes, these big package items will turn - have turned - ruinously expensive, but if they're sunk deeply enough into concrete the only real issue becomes blaming somebody else for the downside, at which they have proven adept. That's the game - "our motives were pure and anything that keeps our dream from being fulfilled is somebody else's fault." It's a political game dating back to Pericles's Greece and if you own the media you can absolutely play it.

All is not, however, merely perception, and the Dems have bankrupted the nation in reality during a time of political advantage that even they must understand is temporary. "Not-Bush" is merely a contemporary version of a timeless confidence game. But "not-Bush" cannot govern, it can merely loot. And the very last thing this country needs at the moment is more smooth-talking looters.
