Thank you, snugs - much appreciated!!!
It’s my favorite dress on her. It really suits her in style, and the fabric is yummy. Color - delicious.
Post 25 - Barbara - is that the maiden voyage of the “boob belt?” LOL
That would be me....
Back atcha LuvW
While I agree that Michelle Obama sometimes seems to have questionable fashion sense, I don't get so excited about that either. Who were the best-dressed first family? Probably the Kennedys, but that doesn't mean that JFK was the best president.
"But what a scene did we witness! The Majesty of the People had disappeared, and a rabble, a mob, of boys, negros [sic], women, children, scrambling fighting, romping. What a pity what a pity! No arrangements had been made no police officers placed on duty and the whole house had been inundated by the rabble mob. " - account of the inaugural festivities for Andrew Jackson
Happy New Year!!
Good morning, and thanks for your hard work to put these great photos together. Each day I miss President Bush more.
Yeah....hows that working out for us?/S
That was such a wonderful day!
One of the greatest things about W is that he is a wonderful man. He is a man who loves his wife with his whole heart, would do anything for her, and we were so blessed with having a President and a First LADY of their kind for 8 years.
After 8 years of Clinton and his political partner, we needed a TRUE COUPLE! We needed two people who were together because of love, not because of political purposes... We had a couple in love while George and Laura were in the White House.
And he is a devoted father who loves his two daughters.
One of the things I miss the most about W is his sense of humor [Obama speaks... I fall asleep...]. President Bush was the man that made me get interested in policy, because he wasn’t the boring man who cheats on his wife and only cares about popularity and money kind of politician...
George took criticism way better than 0bama. Everytime someone criticizes Obama, that someone will sure get a personal attack, courtesy of the White House. President Bush truly understood, and understands, the importance of free speech, and supports it 100%. [I’ve never heard a Bush White House official calling the Democrats names. When the news of the Christmas Bomber broke, they were already blaming Bush..]
President Bush loves the best nation on Earth, the United States of America. He always enjoyed being with the brave men and women who defend freedom and our nation in Afghanistan and Iraq. 0bama simply thinks they are a photo-op.
I started missing President Bush at 12:00 last January the 20th, and I cried as Obama was taking the oath, because I knew that the man I respect so much because of everything he did for us, was gone =( And I still miss him a lot...
What's "royal" about wearing your best and showing respect for your surroundings? Most of us were raised to dress appropriately for the occasion and show respect when due, and most of us are not royalty.
And what's wrong with owning your own clothes? That's a very weird objection to the Bush family - that they own their own clothes. Come on; you'll never pick a fight that way. People just shake their heads when they see something that dopey. You can do better than that.
"ladyvet" was presenting this image of multiple generations of the Bush family, of which two have been president and another has been seriously talked about as a presidential candidate, posed in their finest dress in a faultless formal portrait. And this picture is being presented as evidence that these people belong in the White House.
But isn't this very similar to what someone in England or some other country with a monarchy night admire about their royal family? "They take such nice formal portraits - that means they are qualified to be hereditary rulers."
And what's wrong with owning your own clothes? That's a very weird objection to the Bush family -
Nothing is wrong with someone owning their own formal clothes. But I believe the implication intended by the juxtaposition of the two pictures was that the Bushes had class and in contrast that some of Obama's relatives do not because they re not dressed as nicely. But clearly one reason they are not dressed as nicely is that they are from Africa and they are only here for one occasion. Yes, it's a special occasion, but maybe they do not have the means to outfit the whole family, including the children, in new clothes for one night. Should Obama have told his relatives not to come because they are too poor to afford a special set of clothes? And of course these people are not as aware of American tradition. I notice that that most of the men in this picture are wearing suits, so they are trying. But they're not wearing tuxes - how horrible! And it's not even a formal portrait. In contrast the Bush picture was probably carefully organized by a portrait photographer.
America is not a class society. That's for England or India and even in those places it is out of date. As the quote I included shows, we have been letting people into the White House who are not "to the manor born" since the days of Andrew Jackson (especially for inauguration parties). People were getting offended back then too but the republic did not collapse because of this minor issue. It's actually characteristically American that one doesn't always have to own fine clothes to be allowed in "the people's house".
Knock it off. Your trying to make this into something it's not.
Enough already . . . This is PROTECTED thread for those of us who wish to celebrate the presidency and post-presidency of George W Bush (and his wonderful family) . . . Take your pseudo-intellectualism elsewhere; we’re not interested!
snugs: THANK YOU for posting this wonderful thread! I particularly enjoyed viewing the inaugural photos again — what an incredible day and evening (and my son and I were there to enjoy it all)!!
[Thank goodness for CSpan dvds — I purchased their GWB II inaugural collection . . . The snippet from the Commander in Chief ball is beyond AWESOME!!]

Thanks for the links, Deb! That next door house was mighty
pretty to be knocked down, but I can see where the Bushes would
want some space. They are used to the wide open spaces of
the ranch!
The Facebook site is fun to read!
Thank You so much,Eleanor/Snugs!! <3
This Thread continues to be an Oasis from the
onslaught of ongoing obama abominations.
T Y as always!
Thanks again Luvee!
