Romney will hit key primary states on book tour
Boston Globe ^ | January 3, 2010 | Sasha Issenberg

Posted on 01/03/2010 9:48:14 PM PST by ellery

WASHINGTON - Later this winter, Mitt Romney will strike out on a national book tour, but unlike his party’s most successful recent author he does not expect to make headlines with bits of fresh gossip from the 2008 campaign, see his fans camp overnight outside bookstores, or chat with Oprah Winfrey about his family.

“Inevitably there are going to be comparisons with the Sarah Palin book,’’ said Eric Fehrnstrom, a Romney spokesman. “We’re not going to match her crowd size or sales. These are two different people with different ways of expressing themselves.’’

-snip-

But Romney, considered by many in the party to be the default Republican front-runner for the 2012 nomination, is approaching the book tour with the patient, workmanlike mien that has distinguished him from other probable contenders who seem far more eager for attention.

-snip-

At the same time, Romney is largely stepping away from Washington’s daily partisan political fights and ideological clashes within the right. He has expressed little interest in getting involved in competitive primaries, many of which have become contentious clashes over the GOP’s direction. Romney is unlikely to pick a side in Senate primaries in Florida or California, or for governor of Texas, according to his spokesman.

“Generally speaking, we shy away from primaries unless there’s a compelling reason to get involved,’’ said Fehrnstrom. “One of the criteria we use to determine if we should get involved in the primary is whether a particular candidate has been helpful to Mitt - because we’re loyal and return favors.’’

It may help in Ma. Other than that, it would be best if he would just keep his yap shut.

You just watch, this RINO is going to block a Conservative from getting the nomination 2012 just like McCain did in 2008.

It will be another victory for Obama, because folks won’t vote for Obama lite, when they can get the real thing. And Conservatives won’t break a sweat for the Godfather of RomneyCare, and Conservative challenged.

When he has only a handful of people show up unlike the huge crowd Palin had follow her, will he go away?

LOL. Unfortunately he has a lot of $$$$$ to spend on his campaign, the good news is they aren't going to come from his book sales........

Come election time, the Globe will be in full swing for Romney. They’ll tell the Republicans who to vote for, and you can bet your house on it, that who ever they back, will be a loser. The Globe doesn’t have any interest in getting the Republicans to win. They will be looking for a Democrat landslide victory. I don’t see any big crowds like the ones that are drawn to any Palin rally or book signing, coming to see Romney other than a bussed in crowd. (Like Hillary did in NY in 2000, by sending in the bus first, and then showing up to a rehearsed crowd.) All Palin has to do is let them know she is coming and the crowds start forming. You should have seen them here in FL when she showed up for her rallies. Hopefully they will be even bigger in 2012.

No, maybe that is Jehovah's Witness.

Maybe that publishing is for the choir. Literally.

LOL. It seems like a very low volume first print, but I expect the publisher has accurately gaged the sales. :)

His deamonization will be easy.

It certainly looks like a replay of 2008 at this point. A lot can happen in two years; we’ll see...

Honestly, I don’t care what his religion is. I do care that he put the “Romney” in RomneyCare, that he seems to see a big government “solution” to almost every problem, and apparently has no principles beyond his own electoral prospects.

Only for the liberals and certain moderates. Romney is a plague on conservatism.

I think Romney went the other way—IIRC he was too risk-averse to pardon even a guy who was prohibited from owning firearms because he had plonked someone with a bb gun as a kid.

Happy New Year, D1. It’s too late for me to get involved in a deep conversation, but I think you’re giving Romney too much weight. He’s not going to influence or determine who wins the nomination. The guy won how many primaries? Two? Utah and Nevada’s caucus which he bought? He was first in Iowa by a year and had the best grassroots organization on the ground, only to lose to the last minute entry of Preacher Huckabee.

Nobody has announced, but I think Huckabee and Romney are raring to run. They are the only two I can name with any degree of certainty right now and of the two, Huckabee beats Romney. I might add, I don’t like either one of them.
