You know a rock star is a jerk when he uses the term ‘rock star’ for people who are prominent in other professions.

Bono is as pathetic as Mick Jagger, strutting on stage and showing off his flapping ass, turkey-neck, and coke lines cris-crossing his ancient face like a Himalayan sherpa's map.

He should shut his festering pie hole and start selecting a wheel chair and colostomy bag.

Bono, the rebel, is controlled by his record company and management. If I was a communist rebel, like the types he hangs around with (Billy Bragg), I’d endorse stealing from capitalist corporations. Now that Obama has the corporations in his pocket, he has Bono in his pocket too so that the old communists like Bragg are out of the loop. The old communists who wear T-shirts will never reap the profits like Bono reaps profits by being the front man for corporations, especially those who endorses Obama. Billy Bragg is either too stupid or too moral to be the lying sleaze slick miesters who scam and ham around the world on everybody’s meal ticket — doing good at the drop of the shat, famous for being famous, celebrities on board the Hindenburg. These celebrities megalomania pretensions should be punctured instead of giving them more court time by the MSM to inflate their double digit egos. Real rebels they are not. And they do bring disaster.

I agree to some extent. Yes, people should be paid for the fruits of their labor. I remember the “god ole days” when you bought an album or a CD with only a few good songs and no one in the record industry was complaining.

What ever happened to DRM?

FU Bono, consider it your gift to the poor, since you are always trying to get the US and other countries to give aid.

Hey Bono, why not offer your music for download and make money off the adverts?

It’s virtually impossible to control “mechanical reproduction” with today’s technology. The only way to make the “big money” and actually get paid is through “airplay royalties”. Radio has never really been in the “music business”. They’re in the “selling commercials” business. Even more so today with the total central and corporate control of “playlists and rotations”. That’s why there’s nothing but formulaic crap on the radio. Years ago, radio was at least marginally - on a local level - interested in the music. A person could get a local “jock” to help them “break a record”. At every level, including the outfits like ASCAP, BMI and SESAC, there’s a realization that collecting on “mechanical royalties” is nearly impossible so there’s very little interest in anything but “airplay” crap. The music business has flown up its own butthole.

“If you walked into a store and walked out without paying for the items you picked up, that is equivalent to stealing music.””

No. It’s nothing like it. The toaster is gone from the store. The music is still there. Nothing was stolen. Only copied.

That list is useless.

Lol, your post is useless. Whatever the counting method, sales plummeted in the late '90s, early 2000s, just as illegal downloading became a widespread activity.

Do you have some stats that prove downloading has not reduced legal sales?

Incidently, will he demand royalties from Africans with internet connections?

All the while they seek every avenue to cut their own taxes.

A good analogy would be you get in your car to drive home. On the way home you get a cellphone call informing you five separate people had stolen your car earlier in the day. You continue driving home in your car and find out 3 more people had stolen your car in the interim.

While you were sleeping later that night, with your car safely in your garage, 18 different people stole your car. In the morning you get in your car and drive to work again.

“ADD it all up and you get what has destroyed the monster over bloated beast we know as the recording industry.’

Sounds like a pretty cogent description of the situation. The internet is huge and amorphous as hell. What’s good about it can also be whats bad about it.

I put some stuff up a while back. There was would be no real support of it (public performance) since the singer wasn’t interested. But I put the stuff up any way just to see what happened. However so many people grabbed the songs to put up on “radio stations” (which is a thing an unknown like me WANTS) that I could never get a read on what the songs were doing. Whan the radio stations kicked in the counts stopped, yet people are STILL grabbing the stuff for their “stations” now. Oh well....

There's not anything quite like what's happened with music. We can debate about what's right and wrong, but the simple fact is "what is." Music is easily reproducible, and there's no way to copy protect it. Copy protection of downloadable songs simply moves people towards pirating.

Copyrighting was originally intended to protect artists, but has become a method to enrich lawyers and corporations. As an example, Hank Williams has been dead for nearly sixty years, but lawyers still make money off his music. What if a hammer manufacturer demanded a royalty off every nail driven with a hammer? That's what copyright has become.

I don’t consider Bono’s work as “intellectual” property. By the way, he’s a tax evader isn’t he?

Bono wants every country using their tax $$$ to help poor countries, yet he shields his own money from taxes using every trick he can.

But, did you build the "car" and have to pay others for producing and marketing the "Car"? The "car" in your scenario was not stolen, it was copied, or reproduced. There is still value in the reproduction; same cost and value as was put into the original.

Same with songs and software. They cost money to produce and to market. Why should they be allowed to be stolen? They are produced to be sold; not just given away, unless the manufacturer or artist decides to do so.
