Thank you Mr. Gore, it's not every day that you see a freeze watch issued by the Miami office of NWS.

Why does NOAA always have to shout with all CAPS? It's not like their using old Teletype machines anymore.

Freeze, shemeze.

In December of 1962, it was 17 degrees in Tampa. I slipped on ice on the sidewalk headed for school that morning.

Last time I was in Orlando was january 2004, had a blast at the nearly deserted water parks, was immensely amused to see people wearing parkas, caps and gloves at Universal Studios in temps of low 50’s.

Spent a whole month there in a vacation rental home, there were a couple of days when the temps went over 75 and I had a little bit of heat exhaustion but it was a good vacation, returned to Alaska where it was -20F.I cannot go anywhere where it gets over 80 after quite a few years in Alaska now.

No, but we used to have them more often. This past year has been very hot with temps 3 to 8 degrees above normal on most days.

This freeze warning is for the Okeechobee area (barely S. Florida) in the interior sections which can easily get to 10 degrees below the coast.

Here in suburban Philadelphia, we’re at just below 20 degrees with howling winds. Hubby is running heat lamps inside our attached garage. We forgot to drain one section of plumbing, and it’s already frozen. I’m just glad he and our boys insulated the crawl space above our 2nd floor last week. Good timing on that project!

Longest Cold Snap In Nine Years Hits Central Florida
Posted: January 2, 2010

Orlando, FL — A major cold front will cause freezing conditions every night through this Thursday across almost the entire region. Some areas could even see a hard freeze.

The cold front first hit the area on Friday.

It’s the longest stretch of cold weather Central Florida has seen since 2001.

Farmers are protecting their crops because of the freezing weather.

Energy officials say demand for electricity has also increased because of the cold weather. The Orlando Utility Commission, however, says it has plenty of power to meet demand.

Area homeless shelters are also opening their doors to make sure people on the street have a warm place to sleep.

People are also being warned to bring in their pets and protect their plants and pipes.

We had a stretch of six or so years with no freezes at all. We had at least one last year and this year we’re going to get smacked.
