Clemson University is fighting back against an invasion of squirrels on its South Carolina campus.
The Anderson Independent-Mail reports workers spent much of December trapping Eastern gray squirrels, catching and euthanizing the 200 rodents allowed under federal law.
The squirrels have caused problems in recent years, killing about 100 mature trees by chewing on the bark for food and making their territory. About 10 percent of the campus' trees have been damaged in some way, likely costing the school about $1 million in the past decade. Clemson officials tried a squirrel birth control program, but it didn't do enough to curb the population.
Biologists estimate the 800-acre campus has two to three times the normal population of squirrels per acre.

Clemson officials tried a squirrel birth control program, but it didn't do enough to curb the population. Need more social workers to conduct condom training.
Or maybe more Planned Parenthood centers oriented towards squirrels.

I've trapped and relocated two squirrels this past week due to their damage to my bird feeder. Darn if there weren't two more on my deck this morning.........
Amnesty, relocation and new identities were granted to the prior two but I ain't gonna be so forgiving with these newcomers...........

I don’t know if you knew this, but relocation has to be at least 5 miles away. Squirrels find their way back!

My mother doesn’t have a shotgun, but she takes relocation seriously - she transports them across a river! Then again, I haven’t checked - the trees may be close enough that the little buggers could jump back across!
Clemson just needs to have a hunting weekend and tell all the libs to use ear plugs or something.

Thanks for the advice. I think it’s time for me to relocate the five that are digging in my yard everyday.

My mother doesnt have a shotgun, but she takes relocation seriously - she transports them across a river!People in the Twin Cities do that. People from St Paul bring them across the river and release them in Minneapolis, while people from Minneapolis bring them across the river and release them in St Paul.
