A woman at the center of a complex dispute with her former lesbian partner defied a court order to give up custody of her 7-year-old daughter, an attorney said Friday.
A Vermont judge had ordered Lisa Miller to turn over daughter Isabella to Janet Jenkins at 1 p.m. Friday at the Falls Church, Va., home of Jenkins' parents.
Miller did not show up with the girl, said Sarah Star, Jenkins' Vermont-based attorney. Jenkins has notified Fairfax County, Va., police that Isabella is missing, Star said.
"She's very disappointed, obviously," Star said. "She's very concerned about Isabella and asks that if anybody sees Isabella, that they please contact the authorities."
Quantcast Miller and Jenkins were joined in a Vermont civil union in 2000. Isabella was born to Miller through artificial insemination in 2002. The couple broke up in 2003, and Miller moved to Virginia, renounced homosexuality and became an evangelical Christian.
When Vermont Family Court Judge William Cohen dissolved the couple's civil union, he awarded custody to Miller but granted liberal visitation rights to Jenkins.
The supreme courts of Virginia and Vermont ruled in favor of Jenkins, saying the case was the same as a custody dispute between a heterosexual couple. The case was appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, which declined to hear arguments on it.
Cohen awarded custody to Jenkins on Nov. 20 after finding Miller in contempt of court for denying Jenkins access to the girl. The judge said the only way to ensure equal access to the child was to switch custody.
But Cohen also noted that it appeared Miller had stopped speaking to her attorneys and "disappeared" with the child.
Miller's last known address is in Forest, Va. A telephone number listed for her at that address rang unanswered Friday.
Her attorney, Mathew D. Staver, the law school dean at Liberty University, did not respond to a request through an assistant for comment.
One of these days, some stupid government employee — a judge, or someone else — is going to mess with a guy named Henry Bowman. And when that happens, I will shout for joy.
Good.
Its long past time that people started ignored these activist judges and their immoral edicts.
It’s only going to get weirder from here on out.
The Underground Railroad is back in operation.
I could not agree more.
That a mother must give up her child to someone she used to sleep with — a stranger to the child — because some judge has an agenda is beyond reason. To defy this absurd court order is the only proper thing to do.
I wish the mother and Isabella well.
I’m confused. The woman who gave birth to this child, renounced her homosexual ways, found God and doesn’t want her biological child to be around her ex-lesbian partner is the BAD GUY in this? (That’s the way the media is portraying it, IMHO).
I know they both must be a little mentally ill, but shouldn’t we be rooting for the one who turned her life around? I mean, if we have to root for the lesser of two evils, then Miss Miller is the lesser of two evils.
What am I missing? And why is this any different than say, a woman who later finds out her husband is gay and doesn’t want her children having anything to do with him?
I mean, I don’t think homosexuals should marry, let alone reproduce in the first place, but we are where we are in society in this case, at least. *SHRUG*
How was the Virginia Supreme Court allowed to get away with this? The Constitution of Virginia is very clear that same sex unions performed anywhere are not legal in Virginia.
No place to hide and Miller cannot even get four members of the SCOTUS to hear her arguments.

How do you ignore them? They have law enforcement officers everywhere to do their bidding. Long arm of the law. A policeman can demand your id anywhere for any reason, run it through a computer and find out you have a warrant. Defy a judge and you can be charged with kidnapping your own child.
This woman apparently played it straight, no pun intended, until she got shafted. When laws are wicked and judges corrupted, playing it straight is foolhardy.

When I was young I was occasionally annoyed to come upon passages in The Bible telling that the wicked will be good, right will be wrong, up will be down etc, and I’d think how unlikely and flat out stupid that sounded......
......What a difference a few decades makes.
It’s getting more and more obvious that, unless you tow the PC line, your Right to Redress is slim to none. We are being manipulated into revolt. They have something planned when that occurs.
That’s where I get hung up, too.
So, in your opinion, the child should be taken away from both of them?
What would King Harrod do? ;)
Answer: DNA
These people and the lawyers (who are not human) in our courts are all insane...
Oh sure... just like David Goldman was willing to give up his own son to foreign non-bloodline ‘family’. Blood is thicker than water-— the child should remain with it’s biological mother and God grant her protection. The black-robed tyrant lawyer is an AZZ. Pox on him the fool.
When the girl was born, were both women listed as parents?
From another article I read, Lisa Miller said the other woman was not listed on the birth certificate.
