Two illegal aliens charged with murder in Virginia Beach (sanctuary city)
Examiner ^ | Dec. 30, 2009 | Dave Gibson

On Saturday night, Virginia Beach police arrested Jorge Alberto Fuertes Loredo, 31, and Isidor Loredo Amaya, 31, after Florentino Martinez-Melendez, 40, was shot to death in a trailer park. A second victim survived the shooting but remains in critical condition in a local hospital.

Apparently, the fatal shooting was the result of a heated argument.

Both Loredo and Amaya have been charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Both Mexican nationals are in the country illegally, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have placed a hold on them.

Virginia Beach Commonwealth Attorney, Harvey Bryant, said that the two illegal aliens have been living in the state for quite some time.

Bryant said: "It appears that Mr. Amaya has been in Virginia for about 10 years, spending his time between Harrisburg, Virginia and here.”

A hearing for the two is scheduled for Feb. 4, 2010.

Both shooting victims were also illegal aliens.

This case demonstrates the ongoing dangers posed by the city’s large illegal immigrant population.

In April 2007, in Virginia Beach, Va., a Mexican national named Alfredo Ramos slammed into the rear of a vehicle in which Allison Kuhnhardt and Tessa Tranchant were stopped while waiting at a traffic light. Ramos, 22 was traveling at a high rate of speed and was drunk at the time (he blew a .14 BAC). The two high school students had to be cut from their crumpled car and both later died after being taken to the hospital. Ramos suffered only a busted lip.

Though an illegal alien, Alfredo Ramos had been living in Virginia Beach for quite a while and worked at local a Mexican restaurant known as Mi Casita. Ramos had been previously convicted of three separate charges of public intoxication, identity theft, and even a DUI, but continued to live in the area. He speaks only Spanish and required an interpreter at all of his court proceedings.

The girls which Ramos killed were ages 16 and 17. Tessa Tranchant's brother Dylan had only been home from Iraq for two weeks, when his sister was killed. Dylan was tasked with identifying his little sister's body. The case gained national fame thanks to the reporting of Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, who helped expose Virginia Beach as a haven for illegal aliens.

O’Reilly placed the spotlight on that city's Mayor and Police Chief and characterized the resort town as a place where drunken Mexican invaders are allowed to roam freely.

Immediately after the case was reported on the O’Reilly Factor, Virginia Beach Police Chief Jake Jacocks went on the offensive and claimed that O'Reilly was wrong in focusing on the fact that Ramos was an illegal alien. He accused the Fox News commentator of turning the girls' deaths into a "political issue."

However, local ABC affiliate WVEC showed that the police chief was at least culpable in the tragedy when they reported that "Chief Jacocks says the policy of not reporting illegals until after three DUI charges was his idea. He hoped it would let illegal immigrants feel comfortable if they were involved in an accident."

Former Mayor Obendorf told reporters: "I never want anyone to miss the fact that someone who was drunk caused the death of two innocent young women, and it had nothing to do with nationality or anyone doing anything inappropriate as far as the government is concerned."

While the leadership of Virginia Beach has never formally declared the city to be a 'sanctuary' for illegal aliens, the way the leadership of Chicago or Tucson have done, it is every bit the haven to invaders that those two cities represent. Virginia Beach is dominated by hotels, restaurants, and housing developers, all of which hire tremendous numbers of illegal aliens.

Hotel owners often declare that they could simply not operate without the influx of Mexican and Central American nationals who can frequently be seen passed out drunk on the beach during the summer. The city has also seen thousands of over-priced cookie cutter homes built in the last several years, most of which have been constructed by illegal Mexican labor.

The building boom turned local convenience and home improvement store parking lots into gathering spots for groups of often drunken Latino men. While the city is very happy raking in huge profits in increased real estate taxes, they pass precious little of that revenue on to the citizens. While having a population of 450,000 residents, Virginia Beach still relies solely on a volunteer rescue squad for medical emergencies.

*Reporter’s note: While city leaders bristled in 2007, at his accusations, Bill O'Reilly got it right. I live here and I am a daily witness to the unlawful transformation of this once beautiful city.

When I initially called the Virginia Beach Correctional Facility and asked a deputy about the immigration status of Loredo and Amaya, I was put on hold for quite a while. When the young man came back on the line, he directed me to another deputy. When I called that number with no answer, I started the process over again.

I was then told that whether or not ICE had placed a hold on the two was “privileged information” and he could not tell me. In fact, until I pressed him, he would not even tell me whether or not the Mexican nationals had been formally charged.

Despite the deputy’s insistence, the suspects’ immigration status is public information, but it was obvious he was only following orders from his superiors.

The rise in crime in Virginia Beach that can be attributed to illegal aliens is no doubt embarrassing to city officials. However, unless the city begins to take seriously the threat posed by the illegal aliens they have welcomed…They will continue to be asked uncomfortable questions as that city’s death toll rises.

22 years ago Nov, in Houston, I had 27 stitches put in my head, being jumped by 3 non-legals. ‘Bout 6mos later was held up, robbed, at gun point, kicked etc by latinos at my work place. I have no sympathy or concern for their plight any longer.

I wouldn’t go to another country and behave as such, and so I have NO respect for those that break the law to live and work here in the States. My sympathy was stolen by blood and guns. My country is good and if this is the respect that is given, I return it 10 fold.

I am disgusted to drive by homes with a Mexican flag waving and no US flag beside it. I could accept both, but I WILL NOT accept a single Mexican flag waving in my country, our country. The disrespect is sickening!

After 9/11, I decided I was done forever with PC! Screw all that disrespect the USA!

LOL. Damn Euro-Weenies buckling under the influx of foreign invaders again. Yep, Europe is dead and gone.

Oh, wait...this is not about Virginia Beach, Europe, but Virginia Beach, USA? Oh my.

Jokes aside, my family used to vacation in Virgina Beach and other cities all along the coast from Maryland to Florida in the '70s and I don't recall ever seeing lots (if any) of 'Latinos' back then. For some strange reason hotels, restaurants, etc. still seemed to be able to provide very good services for acceptable prices. What's happened since then? (Someone must be making big bucks from the invasion - cui bono?!)

Thanks DJ!

Happy New Year, my friend. Not to embarrass you, but you are the Michael Barone of FreeRepublic, and I think I speak for most Freepers when I say how much I(we)have appreciated the high quality and prescient insights of your commentary throughout the years.

BTW. What did ya think about the “surrender” of the 5th Congressional District of Alabama? Talk about sticking to old Ronnie Flippo and Bud Cramer. Did anyone of us every believe that we would live long enough to see the GOP capture John Sparkman’s old seat? I think this is a very big deal, and I’m dying to know your opinion.

Amen to that, and I would throw in the less than stellar performance of the Chief of the VA Beach police during this whole sordid episode. He ought to be run out of town on a rail.

Former Mayor Obendorf

These are three words I never expected to see together, at least while she was vertical. Did Meyera lose an election or just give up?

Oberndorf finally lost to a Republican challenger, Will Sessoms, in ‘08 (after being Mayor 21 1/2 years - and in continuous local office for 43 years).

Thank you for the compliment, though I’m probably not fit to hold Barone’s jockeys. Anyway... with respect to AL-5, it was likely to fall to us before long, given the top-down GOP trend in the district (although it hasn’t trickled down fully to the legislative level, yet, but that will happen, too). It should’ve fallen in ‘94 when we came within an inch of beating Bud Cramer. The only reason we didn’t win it in ‘08 was because we ran Wayne Parker again, who was a fallback choice, and he was best described as an old retread, and yet even as a second-tier choice, he still almost won. Had we run a first-tier candidate, we’d likely have taken it.

Initially, Dem State Sen. Tom Butler had claimed he was going to switch to the GOP and run for it, but ultimately changed his mind (he still hasn’t switched, which would put the GOP within 3 seats of winning the AL Senate). That would’ve been a barnburner between Butler and Griffith, though Butler probably would’ve been hammered for switching parties (as Griffith is about to be during the election season). Griffith’s State Senate seat fell to the GOP in a special election (and by a wide margin), which probably gave him pause. Was his switch opportunistic ? Yes. But in all fairness, he only just got to DC in the past year and probably made the discovery, as so many old-line Southern Dems did, that the Democrats at the State Capitol, for the most part, aren’t much like those in DC. He may not feel fully comfortable going over to a party he’s opposed most of his life, but if he wants a fighting chance to retain his seat, he might not have a choice.

His biggest problem now is the primary, because the Dems may not be able to recruit anyone substantial for the general (ironically, though, Sen. Butler is mentioned - it would be funny if the race is run in reverse as to what was expected in ‘08 - but Butler would have to give up his seat, in fact, any sitting legislator will have to do that in ‘10, so it may discourage anyone but non-legislators to go for it). Ag Commissioner Ron Sparks said no (he still feels he has a fighting chance to beat Artur Davis for the Gubernatorial nod) as did Susan Parker, so unless the Dems can persuade a legislator, whomever wins the GOP nomination is the likely winner.

Just as an aside on party switchers, unless the person is truly odious, I tend to support them for at least one more term to demonstrate they’ve “gotten with the program.” Party switching (for ideological reasons at least) should be rewarded on our side, because if we make it a hostile environment for them to do so, potential fence-sitters unhappy with the radicalism of the Democrats won’t bother. Right now, we should be applying as much pressure to those Dems that feel as uncomfortable as Griffith did. Once over, they tend to feel more liberated to move rightwards (since the act of even being in the Dem party means procedurally you have to support liberal organizational practices). Getting people to switch is also demoralizing for the party they leave behind, too. At this point when we’re in the minority, we need to use all the weapons in our arsenal (and not be afraid to).

The GOP needs to be turning up the pressure on Bobby Bright right now. He only won (and that in a district that hadn’t last voted for a Dem since 1962) because of a viciously brutal GOP primary runoff that saw the loser endorse Bright. He is ostensibly slightly more Conservative than Griffith, so it needs to be stressed to him (since he claimed to have agonized while as Montgomery Mayor which party to run under) that if he wants a second term and nice, less stressful career in DC worrying about reelection, it would be smarter of him to do it under our label (or, he can go down to defeat this November).

Both shooting victims were also illegal aliens.

Murder rates are down. Clearly Americans are unwilling to do that job, so these immigrants are taking up the slack!
