Ben Nelson Panics: Starts Massive Ad Campaign - ObamaCare Will Kill Careers
David Horowitz's NewsRealblog ^

Posted on 12/31/2009 9:56:13 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

Senator Ben Nelson and his friends (of the leftist MSM) have discovered that the senator from Nebraska may have committed political suicide by voting for ObamaCare. Yahoo! News reports that, according to pollster Scott Rasmussen, Nelson would only receive 30% of the votes if elections were held today, while his (unnamed) Republican competitor could count on 61%. That’s a massive gap of 31%.

It goes to show just how unpopular ObamaCare is.

Nelson’s health care vote is clearly dragging his numbers down. Just 17% of Nebraska voters approve of the deal their senator made on Medicaid in exchange for his vote in support of the plan. Overall, 64% oppose the health care legislation, including 53% who are Strongly Opposed. In Nebraska, opposition is even stronger than it is nationally.

In order to counter the growing opposition to his betrayal, Nelson kicked off a massive ad campaign yesterday. The ads were first aired during yesterday’s Holiday Bowl game and will continue “for an undisclosed number of days.”

Although the fact that Nelson has decided to start this ad campaign is in itself all we need to understand that he’s panicking, it becomes even more clear that he’s truly terrified, if you realize that he isn’t up for reelection until 2012.

Not to mention the shift in tax income for the government. This health care movement is actually stupid.

Loud: not stupid, Obama and his ilk are simply gambling. They think that as long as they push this through, they may lose the elections of 2010 and perhaps even those of 2012, but in the long run, they’ll run because socialized medicine will, they believe, inevitably result in America becoming a social democracy.

If Bennelson has any sense, he will not vote for Obamacare again.

Not that it will make any difference.

Socialized medicine, given time, and a huge influx of illegals given U.S. citizenship ... will become a third rail issue, not unlike social security. No politician will dare touch it ...

As I understand it, not many states have provision for recall of Senators. I’m don’t know about Nebraska.

It sure would be sweet though.

I've read some posts from Nebraskans stating that they are supremely embarrassed in what Nelson did. He whored out to get special treatment on Medicare payments. Outrageous.

It's good to see so many good people from Nebraska taking a principled stand. This can inspire many others. I think the gig is up on special favors like the one Nelson went for. You simply cannot get away with it anymore.

0bama and his minders and fellow travelers are doing this because they have no fear of electoral outcomes next year or in 2012. Why fear what you plan to eliminate?

THE
ANY THREE
ACTION ALERT

Send a copy of this article (a paper copy, or a link) to Rep. Bart Stupak, Rep. Joseph Cao, and the Potential Flip Vote of your choice. If the vote on the final (post-reconciliation bill) goes exactly as it did last time in the House, but with just three people flipping from YES to NO, THIS BILL WILL FAIL.

Bart Stupak Contact Information

Again: there were 42 members of the House who voted both in favor of the Stupak amendment to bar taxpayer funding for abortions and in favor of the main bill. Clearly, Speaker Nancy Pelosi couldn't have won passage of health care legislation had the House not adopted pro-life language.

The names below are all of those who voted in favor of both measures, with an asterik next to those who were considered undecided on the morning of the vote. To be clear, many of these members would have supported the health care bill no matter what. However, given the 220-215 vote margin on the House vote, what it means is that when the pro-life language is stripped from the bill during negotiations with the Senate, if Pelosi loses the support of any three of these people below as a result -- without picking up anybody else's support -- the bill cannot pass the House.
