BISMARCK, N.D.North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said he expects the state to file a lawsuit against Minnesota over its plan to tax carbon dioxide created by electrical generation. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission wants to add a fee of $4 to $34 per ton of carbon dioxide to the cost of electrical generation starting in 2012. The majority of electricity in North Dakota is generated by coal-fired power plants, which emit carbon dioxide.
North Dakota officials consider it an unfair tax on electricity produced in the state and say it would discourage its use by Minnesota utilities.

It’d be even better if ND just said “live in the dark” and hit the switch to the “OFF” position.

There is a simple solution. ND should build a nuclear power plant.

Cut the national power grid at the Minnesota state line.
Minnesota is restricted to only having power available that is produced within the state.
Nuclear power generation produces ZERO carbon emissions.
And simultaneously, California should also be cut out of the national grid. They may only consume power that is produced WITHIN the state.
Greenest solution I can think of. Force the greenies to live within their OWN budget. Then we shall see some huge strides in energy conservation.

So if Minn. wants to tax ND a carbon tax, only Minn. utilities that use ND power, have to pay it.
How does one state charge a tax to a business operating in another state?
Do the people in Minn. buy their power from ND? NO, they buy it from Minn. power companies who buy it from ND. Its the Minn. power companies doing business in the state of Minn.

Even the dimmest of people ought to be able to see this great CO2 scam for what it is. This is just another excuse to tax people for the outrageous expenditures of government whether it be state or federal.
People would raise cane if they saw their personal income tax or their property tax go up. But a tax on CO2 would be hidden in their electrical bills. Most probably would not even notice it. CO2 has been deemed to be bad in the eyes of the general public (uneducated idiots) through a constant pounding by the MSM. I hope we are slowly making some progress in informing the citizenry what a scam the carbon tax is.

OUr idiot pols here in MN want to be more like Kalifornia:
California’s Energy Colonialism
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120977344875064131.html?mod=googlenews_wsj
... The blunt secret is this: California now imports lots of energy from neighboring states to make up for having too few power plants. Up to 20% of the state’s power comes from coal-burning plants in Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Montana. Another significant portion comes from large-scale hydropower in Oregon, Washington State and the Hoover Dam near Las Vegas. ...
“California practices a sort of energy colonialism,” says James Lucier... “They leave those states to deal with the resulting pollution.”
...California’s proud claim to have kept per-capita energy consumption flat while growing its economy is less impressive than it seems. The state has some of the highest energy prices in the country nearly twice the national average largely because of regulations and government mandates to use expensive renewable sources of power. As a result, heavy manufacturing and other energy-intensive industries have been fleeing the Golden State in droves....
And yet, despite a desperate need for more power, opposition to energy projects remains prevalent. ...
None of this has stopped leaders from setting wildly unrealistic goals for safeguarding the environment, from electric cars to wind-energy production.
The latest goal is to drastically reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. ... Even the California Energy Commission hints that the targets might be unreachable. But they’ll certainly cost a lot to find out. Analysis from the Electric Power Research Institute pegs the Act’s cost to the California economy at anywhere from $100 billion to $511 billion.
Californians may feel good about their environmental consciousness. But someone needs to build power plants and oil refineries to fuel their economy. Someone needs to manufacture the cars they drive, the airplanes they fly, the chemicals and resins and paints and plastics that make their lives comfortable.

California should also be cut out of the national grid.
I live in California and I reluctantly am forced to agree with you on this one. People in this state are so stupid and ignorant when it comes to energy that it's almost impossible to comprehend.
Pain and only severe pain can bring the citizenry to understand what a problem this is.
Only BLACKOUTS and BROWNOUTS can bring people to their senses. I hate to say this but it's true. I'd like to see California make a go of it with their windmills and solar plants (if there are any in operation). I cannot believe that there is any other way. The only problem is that I will suffer with the rest of these fools. I wish I could get out of here. Only pain and suffering can stop this madness.

I used to live there, couldn’t possibly pay me enough to move back. I would cheer at the news of all grid lines supplying electricity to CA being cut.
Let them swelter in the dark. Further more, if I were the head of an electrical generating company, I would not supply any enviro-group.

I am not sure this proposal will go very far.
The buyers of ND electricity are the REC’s Rural Electric Cooperatives-they have lots of members who vote. They will fight any electric rate increases brought about by a tax.

Yes, I'm a Californian and this was once a great state and a great place to live. The liberals have ruined the state. But we are not alone. The liberals have ruined a lot of places.
This is an excellent article and it accurately accesses the energy situation here in the state. The problem is that the average knuckle dragger doesn't understand the problem. They are completely ignorant on the subject of energy and how is produced and distributed. As an example I went onto the PG&E website and was not surprised to see articles about solar projects and energy efficient light bulbs and the like. It was all a bunch of rubbish and the people at PG&E know it's a bunch of rubbish. They are tried of trying to talk sense into our elected officials and our citizenry. They are just going to let the disaster happen and then try to step in and do the necessary things (build Nuclear Power Plants) to fix the problem.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has been absolutely awful when it comes to this problem. The man is as dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to energy (and a lot of other things). The liberals have got into his head and he cannot see straight. I think the problem is a lack of education. I also think that Arnold made his money in a fantasy industry. That's carried over into his governorship. He simply isn't up to the job intellectually. He doesn't understand energy and he doesn't understand economics. He's a buffoon. Heck even Grey Davis understood energy policy better than Schwarzenegger.

It looks to me that at a fine of $34.00/ton of CO2 the fine would be more than the cost of coal consumed.
