Mark Kirk
The Illinois congressman, now the front-runner in the Republican primary election for U.S. Senate, is facing an attack ad that questions his sexual orientation. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that opponent Andy Martin, already controversial for previous remarks about Barack Obama, has run for offices in Illinois, Florida and Connecticut but has never won. He taped a commercial questioning whether Kirk is gay -- and radio stations have told the Sun-Times that federal communications rules don't permit them to edit the ads. Spokesman Erik Elk said that Kirk, a U.S. Naval Intelligence officer, was unavailable for comment because he is on active duty over the holidays. Elk issued this statement: "The ad is not true and is degrading to the political process. The people of Illinois deserve better." Kirk, whose candidacy was endorsed by his ex-wife, faces five opponents in the Republican primary on February 2.

I'll take your word for it.
I don't know if he's fruity or not and I don't care but if the allegation that he is hurts him, super.
So the ends justify the means. Got it.
Remember now he's a democrat in the GOP and that's not an exaggeration. I'm gonna go ahead and treat him like one. He's a liberal, not a moderate.
I guess I don't think this kind of ad would be wise or appropriate against a Democrat either.
Now Andy Martin is very strange and less than a good conservative himself, I don't think he could even win an election.
He's worse than that. He's a sociopath, and I mean that. Nothing good can come from forming an alliance with him; he needs to be treated as a complete pariah.
But there are 3 credible conservatives in the race. John Arrington, Patrick Hughes, and Don Lowery. There has not been much polling so far but I'm sure more polls will be conducted. If one is clearly in a superior position to win I will vote for that candidate and urge Illinois conservatives to do the same.
That's good; hopefully one of them gains some traction. Hopefully Kirk is exposed for the DIABLO he apparently is. But this isn't the way to do it.
Think of it this way: Andy Martin = Fred Phelps.
“One must consider the final result” is allegedly a more accurate translation of Machiavelli. That’s how the socialists think and that’s part of the reason they usually win.
Now there is no need for an “alliance” with Martin. All we need to do is sit back and watch. I wouldn’t jump to Roland Burris aid if someone alleged he packed fudge. I’d say no comment and laugh. The good GOP candidates should ignore this and focus on the issues.
BTW Martin did not invent these allegations, allegedly the democrats have been gathering info on Kirk and a decent Republican Aaron Schock who may run for higher office in the future. Schock I would defend but if he is gay it’s better it comes out sooner than later. He can say so what and that he’s against gay marriage anyway and I would gladly vote for him if he ever runs for the Senate.
You need take not take my word on Kirk. If you have a moment or 2 look up his voting record. Do a keyword search on FR. Look at his ratings from the American Conservative Union or ontheissues.org. He voted for cap and trade, he’s for partial birth abortion. He’s not worthy of defense. I only hope this gay rumor doesn’t backfire and help him win the primary.
Now is the time to find out everything you possibly can about the real conservatives who are running. We all need to make a point to find the best conservative and work hard and support the best one in the primary. Don’t wait for the campaign ads to make the decision for you. Go and talk to those who are running. Find out what kind of people they are. This is what all of us have to do in the primaries.
I'm not saying we don't fight with bare knuckles. But I do think some things are fair game and some things are not.

You have a point here. But CNN and others will use this to make the entire GOP look bad - and it's not like the Illinois GOP has a great reputation to begin with.

That's good enough for me; I wasn't trying to be snide when I said I'd take your word for it.
Hes not worthy of defense.
My intent wasn't to defend Kirk, exactly; I was more interested in making clear just how despicable Martin and CNN are.
I only hope this gay rumor doesnt backfire and help him win the primary.
That is a legitimate concern. This kind of gutter politics usually does backfire, especially when originated by the likes of Martin.
There was then sitting on the Federal District Court in Connecticut Judge Jose Cabranes with whom I am acquainted since before Clintoon appointed him. Now, Judge Cabranes is undoubtedly somewhat more liberal than thee or me but I can recommend him as at least a reasonable and moderate fellow. He became so angry at Andrew Martin Trigonis' frivolous abuse of his court that he actually enjoined Andrew from filing any more lawsuits whatsoever without FIRST providing Cabranes with a copy of the complaint and obtaining his permission to sue. I think but am not positive that Anbdrew Martin Trigonis violated the order and wound up in the federal hoosegow on contempt of court.
Finally, while the immediately previous behavior of Judge Cabranes may seem a tad extreme, he was subsequently elevated to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals (CT, VT, NY) and served (with Sonia Sotomayor) on the three judge panel that decided the New Haven Firefighters' affirmative action case there. Judge Cabranes dissented (his dissent became the basis of the SCOTUS decision reversing Sotomayor's 2nd Circuit decision. Essentially, Cabranes wrote that he could tell how Sotomayor wanted the Court to rule at the bottom line but that her decision was absolutely devoid of any legal reasoning whatsoever.
Kirk is my congressman. I dont care whether hes gay. I dislike him because hes pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-spending increases, pro-tax increases, pro-illegal alien, and anti-Iraq surge.
I hope that Kirk will lose his primary to Don Lowery, a conservative who has been a judge and a states attorney. His site is www.JudgeLowery4USSenate.com.
Interesting story, thanks for that.
