The number of detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay sank to under 200 this weekend with the transfer of a dozen former prisoners in the last day to Yemen, Afghanistan, and Somaliland.
One hundred ninety eight detainees remain at Guantanamo.
Since President Obama took office, 42 detainees have been transferred to other countries, and one detainee -- Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani -- was transferred to New York City for trial.
Over the weekend six Yemeni detainees, Jamal Muhammad Alawi Mari, Farouq Ali Ahmed,Ayman Saeed Abdullah Batarfi, Muhammaed Yasir Ahmed Taher, Fayad Yahya Ahmed al Rami and Riyad Atiq Ali Abdu al Haf, were transferred to the government of Yemen.

We now know two of the 4 main Al Qaeda leaders in Yemen were sent from GITMO to Saudi Arabia in 2007 to be 'rehabilitated' in an art therapy program! This obviously failed, because the two fled to Yemen after 'graduating' from this 'rehabilitation' exercise and now are leading plots against the USA.
The Obama plan to close GITMO relies HEAVILY on getting Yemen to take their citizens back, more than 80 Yemenis are still at GITMO. Five days before the Christmas attack, Obama had 6 of those Yemenis sent back home to a country which has a weak central government, is the ancestoral home of Osama Bin Laden, and is currently engaged in open combat with Al Qaeda led militants in the north.
If anyone questions just how secure these Yemeni prisoners will be when they are returned home by Obama, you might want to research Yemen's history of guarding Al Qaeda prisoners. The most important part of the article I found is this 'In mid-September 2007, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh issued a stern warning to the Wa'ilah tribe in northern Yemen: turn over the six al-Qaeda suspects you are sheltering or face serious repercussions (al-Wasat, September 12). The six men that Saleh believes have found refuge with the tribe near the Saudi border are the remnants of a group of 23 prisoners that escaped from a Yemeni political security prison on February 3, 2006. The prisoners escaped by tunneling out of their cell and into a neighboring mosque, which has since been detailed in a lengthy narrative written by one of the escapees and published by the Yemeni paper al-Ghad. The escapees included a number of prominent al-Qaeda militants, among whom were individuals convicted of carrying out attacks on the USS Cole in 2000 and on the French oil tanker Limburg in 2002.'
So, in summary, 1. We know now that Al Qaeda has set up shop in North Yemen, and is being led by two former GITMO residents (prisoners), 2. Obama on Dec. 20th sent 6 more terrorists back to Yemen, with plans to send another almost 80 from GITMO. 3.We know that already the Yemeni gov't is incompetent enough to let many of their most important Al Qaeda prisoners escape back in 2006. 4. We know the Christmas bomber was trained by Al Qaeda in Yemen. 5. We know the POTUS said yesterday that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is an 'isolated extremist', when in fact Abdulmutallab has told us himself he is one of many who are preparing operations like this. 6. We know our Homeland Security apparatus is being led by a woman who first claimed everything worked just fine when it came to this plot. 7. We know the gov't we rely on to protect us has spent BILLIONS and still we are not close to being safe. 8. We know politics and the ego of Obama take precedence over the safety of our citizens.
The above is why Obama is hiding. He fears an actual journalist could question him about his insane policies regarding GITMO, his incompetent Director of Homeland Security, and his own stupidity when it comes to claiming Abdulmutallab is an 'isolated extremist.
To trust either the Saudi's or the Yemenis with ANY of the prisoners remaining at GITMO after our past experience is the height of stupidity, and our leader who support any such thing should be removed from office. Senators, Congressman and the POTUS, all who support such actions do not serve the interests of the country they have sworn to protect and defend.
I wonder if we have heard from Dick Cheney on the ‘rehabilitation program’. I bet dollars to donuts it was the State Department and Congressional Dems pushing the program, Cheney saying “over my dead body” and Bush caving.
I found this link to NY Times, which maintain a ‘docket’ of legal papers regarding all of the GITMO detainees....Ayman Saeed Abdullah Batarfi, one of the 6 Yemeni’s transferred on Dec. 20, admited he was Al Qaeda, said he met Osama bin Laden many times, was at Tora Bora, fought against our troops, and we send him back to Yemen where he will escape and rejoin the fight. Beyond disgusting!

And they made a movie about the "Madness of King George" Compared to this administration Georgie boy was a paragon of sanity.
Nice collection of facts and a nice summary. Well done.
Farouq Ali Ahmed.........sent in 2001 with a Ak-47 guarding UBL’s private airport, captured by Paki’s after escape from Tora Bora. Sounds like one of Osama’s private security detail, he always favored Yemeni’s to protect him because he could trust them. Good plan to send this guy back to Yemen, yeah right
I would like to know more of the details about those prisoners sent back to the saudis. I have this vague memory that they were supposed to be imprisoned, not sent to art class.
Arrrrrrrrgghgghhgghghghghgh!
I meant to say “thank you” for posting this information which I had not seen elsewhere.
I’m with the token liberal panel-babe from Fox Report with Bret Baier on this. The Democrats are in deep, deep doo-doo on this one.
If you go to the NY Times link I posted, you can look up the military docs on any of the 700 and some prisoners who have been through GITMO.
Here are their names.........
Guantanamo prisoner #333, Muhamad Attik al-Harbi, and prisoner #372, Said Ali Shari, were sent to Saudi Arabia on Nov. 9, 2007, according to the Defense Department log of detainees who were released from American custody. Al-Harbi has since changed his name to Muhamad al-Awfi.
Barry should have taken these poor, misguided individuals to Hawaii to romp in the surf with him at taxpayer’s expense. Instead of healthcare for all, why not “living like a King” for all? Just keep printing money.
"The Obama administration has been admitting lately, that Yemen is the new Afghanistan," said Clarke. "It is the new sanctuary. The new al Qaeda base, where people from around the world, who want to be trained are sent. No longer to Afghanistan, but to Yemen."
Welcome to bizarro land, where people like Clarke can tell us that Obama recognizes that Yemen is "the new Afghanistan," while at the same time sending violent Gitmo enemy combatants back to Yemen. The thing is, Clarke may be quoting Obama correctly. There's no lie too big, and no situation that can't be spun to fit the lie, by this administration.
We did send those poor Uighers from GITMO to Bermuda, so you may have a point. A little fun in the sun and surf is surely better than ‘art therapy’ to change their Jihadist urges.
Okay. But what I’d like to know is; what was the deal we had with the Saudis? Were those prisoners supposed to be re-educated/rehabilitated, or were they supposed to be imprisoned? What was the agreement? Did the Saudis not follow the agreement?
Not that I want his vacation to end but on the other hand hey as%%&&&, are you ever going back to work? It’s December 29 now! Lazy a**.
I don’t know if this will help, but:

I read that Heir Queen Pelosi is sunning herself in Hawaii at our expense just like Barry the Kenyan. She should be hosting some of these terrorist POS. Like minds and goals and all that.
Thanks! That answers my question. And,,,, the Saudis are not our friends!
Bump for later
