Official: Dad warned U.S. of son but 'no suggestion' of terrorist act

Washington (CNN) -- When the father of suspected terrorist Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab visited the U.S. embassy in Nigeria in November, he told officials he believed his son was under the influence of religious extremists and had traveled from London, England, to Yemen, a senior administration official said Monday.

Revealing new details, the official also denied the father told officials his son might be on a suicide mission:

"There was no suggestion he was about to carry out a terrorist act," the official said.

A suspect in the foiled Christmas Day terror attack, Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, is being held for allegedly trying to blow up a flight carrying 300 passengers that was about to land in the United States.

This official says the father, Umaru AbdulMutallab, came to the embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, on November 19.

"He was concerned about his son's safety and whereabouts and wondered if the U.S. government could help," the official said. "The father said he was in Yemen," this official said. "His son had gone from London to Yemen."

"insufficient for this interagency review process to make a determination that this individual's visa should be revoked."

Well who needs a visa when you can just hop on the plane anyway?

Sure! Dad shows up at the embassy to warn the U.S. that his son had fallen in with bad company. That would certainly warrant a special trip to the embassy, wouldn’t it? [/sarc]

Just that fact that the parent filed a report is an implicit statement that the son was at risk to be involved in something extremely serious!

So, like, does this mean that Bush wasn't President anymore?

What unbelievable BS. The “official” should be Officially Terminated and fined for all wages received in the last 3 years.

Gee, so why did they tell the US Embassy, so he could come to the US and enroll in anger management classes?

This poor father actually tried to do the right thing, and now he’s being outed and our incompetence because of Gorlick’s interagency blah blah wall of crap is being revealed.
....

How many other fathers do you think will come forward now?

I feel badly for this man, who made a really difficult decision.

“under the influence of religious extremists and had traveled from London, England, to Yemen”

“...the official also denied the father told officials his son might be on a suicide mission...”

What is the difference between “under the influence of extremists” and “on a suicide mission”?!?!?!?!??!

Dad alerted officials his son was mixed up with bad folks, but said nothing about a planned terrorist act.

SO ~~~~~~~~~~

It’s the FATHERS’ fault, not Obamas.

The father is very wealthy, highly educated, and pro-West. That such a man would inform the embassy that his son was bound for trouble should have caused warning signs to be sent throughout the domestic and international intel community. Someone is going to pay; the State Department will not fire the boob involved. It never does. However, one career is now over, as it damned well should be.

"There was no suggestion he was about to carry out a terrorist act," the official said.

Ah, that explains it. The father did not specifically state he knew there was an actual planned attack on a certain flight on a certain date. It was a more general warning about his son getting involved in Islamic extremism. Since the current administration does not link terrorism man-made disasters with Islam then this must not have been a very legitimate warning. Napolitano is right: "the system worked:

I feel so much safer now.

Because if it was just "for help" he wouldn't have gone to the British embassy, or the Yemeni embassy, or even the Nigerian foreign office, right?

It's not that the Government official is lying, but the contempt involved in the feeble nature of the lie.

Why did these morons think he was warning them? Because his son might pray toward Mecca too loudly and cause somebody’s souffle to fall?

What. . .Daddy warned them that his son was a 'big eater'; or maybe that he acts up occasionally because he has 'issues'? Come on. . .how many turnip trucks can there be?

As for warning; seems we are to wait until the deed is done; and then just find the warning in the rubble.

These people; terrorists and a Muslim-loving White House will not stop; and America is on the 'clock'.
