Guns, teachers, and self-defense(ma)
Boston Globe ^ | 28 December, 2009 | DOUG VAN GORDER

I AM a math teacher at Brockton High School, the site of a school shooting earlier this month. --------------------cut---------------------------- An alternative to lockdown is immediate exodus via announcement. Although this removes potential hostages and makes it nearly impossible for the shooter to acquire preselected targets, it unfairly rewards resourceful children who move to safety off-site more shrewdly and efficiently than others.

Schools should level playing fields, not intrinsically reward those more resourceful. A level barrel is fair to all fish. -------------------------------cut------------------------ But as a progressive, I would sooner lay my child to rest than succumb to the belief that the use of a gun for self-defense is somehow not in itself a gun crime.

I wonder if the child he so readily offers as a sacrifice is equally enthusiastic.

Get with it. The guy is demonstrating absurdity by being absurd.

Another one from the same idiot. (He’s either being sarcastic or he’s escaped from an asylum...)

If i had any kids still in school, i believe i would home school one way or another, there is no way i would subject my kids to a nut like that.

If some one wants to sacrafice thier own life, thats fine,
but to sacrfice the lives of children who are in his charge?

People would have to be nuts to send thier kids to these public socialistic schools without that kind of thinking.

With that kind of thinking they would have to be worse than nuts.

Well i guess nuts is too strong, not informed is a more accurate word.

Thats why public schools are not worth a dam, because of misinformation.

‘But as a progressive, I would sooner lay my child to rest than succumb to the belief that the use of a gun for self-defense is somehow not in itself a gun crime.’

Presumably, he means use of a gun by police and military personnel, as well; otherwise he is simply committing ‘gun crime’ by proxy.

Logically, therefore, one must presume he is perfectly comfortable with the notion of yielding his home and the lives of all family members to common thugs, to al-Qaeda terrorists, or, for that matter, to the descendants of German and/or Japanese troops, defending against the predations of whom a great many fine, young men died.

Never mind; it’s understood that this ‘teacher’ is merely intellectually lazy and morally defenseless. He is, in fact, among the very worst of the nation’s addled ‘educators’ - someone who is not only incapable of logical thought, but who is, in addition, proud of the fact and pleased to inflict his deficiencies upon the young and vulnerable.

I'm pretty sure it's sarcasm. The give-away is “I'd rather lay my child to rest....” NO parent would ever “rather lay their child to rest.”

Doug from Quincy is a typical Liberal/Progressive. More than willing to lay down his child’s life or anyone else’s child’s life to make his point rather than his own life. If someone is willfully or maliciously attempting to take another person life and I have the ability to stop it with deadly force than I will do so with a clear conscience.

“A level barrel is fair to all fish.”

That's actually a funny line, and the mixed metaphor from the sentence before I think shows it to be satire.

“And although we deplore the acts of violence Hasan allegedly committed, we deeply cherish his contribution to America’s diversity.”

I appreciate this guy more and more as I read him. That's mean and funny stuff.

I think he is flying under that radar in the liberal Massachusetts schools. He gets away with it because the liberals actually don't see anything wrong with the stuff he writes.

Yeah, Pete. I was thinking about the quote I put in his mouth, and I think I got it wrong. He wouldn't say “Sorry...”

Thank God for those who will die to protect even me, an unworthy slouch. I know this, my Dad didn't go to war to have me die at the hands of some whacko coming down a school hallway while a lib teacher sings, “Morning Has Broken” and uses his students as human sacrifices to his god. Small ‘g’.

I hope it is. I would be thrilled to have been duped by this. If it is satire he has hit it perfectly - liberals will sacrafice their children for their own agenda. Abortion is the sacrament that proves the point.

Boy, I hope you are right.

Yes, it's certainly "unfair" if someone more shrewd or efficient has a better outcome than someone else. Wouldn't want to be teaching people there's value in being shrewd or efficient, certainly not in a place of learning. [facepalm]

Plus, even if all the students didn't benefit equally, most or all might be better off than under the alternative. Perhaps it should be put to a vote: "Do you want to be put in greater danger of death or injury, to ensure that no one else does any better than you?"

Plus, he actually uses the “level playing field” saw that actually disproves that which it’s used to illustrate. Level playing fields in sports insure that everyone plays under the same rules, so that the results ARE a true measure of their skills and random luck during the game, not to ensure that every game end in a tie. If a football field weren’t level, for instance, it might cover failings in the worse team, and the team more skilled and lucky on that day might be unfairly deprived of the win.

It’d be nice if you were right; however, I’m pretty sure he’s serious. I’ve lived in MA all my life, and this is NOT the first time I’ve heard just this sort of thing.

How is it Crime to defend yourself?

Isn't self-defense a basic human right?

"Isn't self-defense a basic human right?" ... Self-defense is the fundamental unspoken basis upon which the dead-soul liberals have for decades promoted their/a female's right to murder an alive unborn child parasite.
