I'm pretty sure it's sarcasm. The give-away is “I'd rather lay my child to rest....” NO parent would ever “rather lay their child to rest.”

It’d be nice if you were right; however, I’m pretty sure he’s serious. I’ve lived in MA all my life, and this is NOT the first time I’ve heard just this sort of thing.
