The start of an Iranian intifada
PBS Iran Bureau ^ | 12/27/09 | by MEIR JAVEDANFAR

[ analysis ] An Iranian style intifada seems to be in the making.

At the beginning of the current period of opposition, which started after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's controversial reelection, the demonstrations were less frequent, with quiet periods in between.

Judging by the events of the day of Ashura, they now have the full potential to turn into a full scale civil disobedience campaign not unlike the first intifada that the Palestinians initiated against Israel in 1987 -- meaning continuous periods of civil disobedience and strikes, and confrontations between members of the public against security forces.

The main factor contributing to the creation of this new phenomenon is the Supreme Leader's recent policy, which seems to be pitting his version of the Islamic Republic of Iran against longstanding Islamic institutions.

This is a battle that he will find extremely difficult to win. In fact, if developments continue in their current format, the could, at a minimum, result in significant changes to the structure of his regime. At most, they could lead to his regime's total demise.

His decision to allow the Basij to attack mourners at Ayatollah Montazeri's funeral was one factor leading to the spread of opposition in rural areas, faster and more efficiently than any campaign the reformist camp could have arranged. Yes, there were members of the opposition who were trying to take advantage of the mayhem, but there were also many genuine mourners who had come to pay homage to a Grand Ayatollah. To Ayatollah Khamenei's forces, they were all the same. To allow attacks against the residents of the a holy city where the seeds of the 1979 revolution were planted was not just wrong from a religious perspective, it was politically counter productive as well.

Yet not one word of support for the Iranian dissidents from our esteemed “Commander in Chief” Obama, AKA DOOFUS.

"You mean even PBS sees what is happening in Iran as a good thing??? Knock me over with a feather...." ,

Here's hoping it is what it appears to be, not jut another head fake from the Iranians ... they could easily allow or even promote this type of rally to get us (or Isreal) to give them more time before forcing action upon their nuclear plants ... just a thought ...

Everyone taking notes?

This may be the preview for our revolution against President Zero & Leftard lackeys in 2010.

Come to think of it: What an excellent and speedy way to purge both political parties, fire thousands of Leftard bureaucrats and run millions of parasites out of the country.

All done in one fell swoop!

I think it’s going to come to that at the end of the day, because I just don’t see the Leftards giving up power unless we carry their dead cold bodies out of government buildings.

I mean they have literally lusted for this moment since the late 1960s and now they have supreme power in their warped, degenerate and not very intelligent minds.

I see rebellion in 2010, and I don’t mean the peaceful Martin Luther King type, I mean strikes, massive civil disobedience and riots.

This battle between the Left and Right has been in the cards for decades. In a way I’m feeling a sense of relief that the hour approaches and we patriots once again get the rebel role.

Ironic that the color we’ll wear is RED.

I hope the Iranian people don’t hold it against us that we have a freakin’ PUSSY for a leader who can’t take the time to offer support!

Sure....because they're looking at it through a Gandhi/Martin Luther King like prism. Problem is....if the current crowd feels really threatened, do you think they'll go quietly?

They'll bring the house down with them. I wouldn't put it past them, if their backs were against the wall, to unleash missiles and/or Hezbollah on Israel.

Anything to hasten the well-dweller's return.

Well, I hate to break it to the Mullah’s in Iran - but GOD is in charge of what is going on in their country - and in the world - and his name is NOT Allah!

I think obamamuzzie is hoping for a win by imanutjob. If the dissidents win, it might hit too close to home for our poser in chief.
