Growing evidence that the Nigerian man charged with trying to blow up a commercial airliner as it landed in Detroit Friday spent time in Yemen and may have been fitted with customized, explosive-laden clothing there could complicate the U.S. government’s efforts to send home more than 80 Yemeni prisoners currently at Guantanamo Bay.
Since Yemenis represent almost half of the roughly 200 remaining prisoners at Gitmo, new hurdles to their resettlement could spell more trouble for President Barack Obama’s plan to close the island prison while transferring a limited number of detainees to a prison in the U.S. Six Yemeni nationals were returned home earlier this month, and officials hoped more transfers would follow.
The relatively weak central government has been working, with U.S. military and diplomatic support, to counter two separate insurgencies, and the nation, Osama Bin Laden’s ancestral home, has become a haven for some members of Al Qaeda. That instability has contributed to concerns within the Obama administration and from its domestic critics about returning prisoners there for repatriation.
The Nigerian man charged with the Christmas Day bombing attempt aboard Northwest Flight 253, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, reportedly spent time in Yemen after graduating from a London university in 2008. According to ABC News, Abdulmutallab has told authorities that, while in Yemen, Al Qaeda operatives crafted the explosive device which was sewn into Abdulmutallab’s underwear.

The reason for the over 3 hour delay?........ it would be unseemly to rush in with unconfirmed good news.
Move the detainees in with Pelosi, Reid, Boxer, Feinstein, Schumer, Murtha, Rangel; house one in each of their houses. Like minds and all that; they should get along fine.
Yemen? If I recall correctly, some terrorists who were convicted and jailed in Yemen somehow managed to escape from jail. So we send the worst of the worst from Gitmo to Yemen jails, they magically escape and are back on the terrorism trail again. Having a president who doesn’t even like America is frightening.
No, Gitmo will be closed. zero has to get the base out to the voting booth next year and this is a biggy to them. No way will they let a singular event like this get in the way of that. After all, nobody was hurt, right? And it was only one guy, right? And it was only one plane, right? Besides, we shouldn’t be biased against Yemen. Yemen deserves the same assumption of good will, honesty, fair dealing and compassion that all other struggling nations deserve......just because they do.
Maybe the reason that the FBI and Homeland Security waited three hours to tell zero and his gang was because they wanted to actually conduct a bit of an investigation before zero and Eric Holder shut them down? Just a thought. :)

There was talk during the dem primaries about a 2 AM phone call... Obama couldn’t be reached till 9AM.

If this was Bush the media would be going mad and so would the left and I like to think many of us on here would be asking why was Bush not being informed of a failed attack and maybe pending attacks?
Is this article REALLY suggesting Karl Rove manufactured this incident to prevent Gitmo from closing?
