BELLEVUE, Wash., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A ten percent drop in murders during the first six months of this year at a time when gun sales were up dramatically is more proof that there is no correlation between gun ownership and violent crime, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.
The FBI released data Monday that shows murders dropped by 10 percent from the same period in 2008. Meanwhile, according to data released by the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) shows that during the first six months of this year, gun sales were up. January 2009 background checks rose 28.8 percent over the same month in 2008, February's NICS checks were up 23.3 percent and in March they were up 29.9 percent over March 2008. The trend continued in April, with NICS checks up 30.3 percent, while May showed a slowdown, up only 15.5 percent, and in June they were up 18.1 percent.

Credit where credit is due.
May I suggest that the possibility of a negative correlation presents itself here...?
Yes! The more honest people who have guns, the less violent crime there will be.
what the sam hill is THIS about?
Thank you! I had already copied that line to my clipboard to make the same observation you have. You can bet it the numbers had gone the other way there would be no scarcity of liberals proclaiming a correlation of the first magnitude.
I have long favored making the crime the use of a firearm in an inappropriate manner, not the mere possession of the firearm. Properly used and stored they can be the difference between life and death in those instances where seconds count and the police are but minutes away.
Weapons laws, like most laws, have become way too complicated over the years and also like most laws end up doing little more than making life harder on the law abiding citizen. After all, they are the ones who take laws seriously, not the ones who have no intention of obeying laws that they don’t like or feel they can get away with breaking.
My dad’s solution was to give ‘em all a gun. His reasoning was that before long they would kill each other off. I don’t think his approach would work today, but it still has a certain ring to it that I like!
How? Guns kill people...more guns = more deaths. Ma Brady says so!
My daughter asked (for her 26th birthday present) that she and I together get concealed carry permits. I pay for the class and permit as her gift. Said it would be good father/daughter bonding experience.
Gotta love that girl.
aw shoot.....
Gotta love that girl.
Wiping a tear of hope from my eye. I hope my girls are as wise.
Therefore, clearly the gun grabber crowd doesn't really care about protecting the innocent if all it will do is put them in more danger.
Gun salesman of the year giving his best seasonal sales pitch.
awesome! Kill some paper for me! er, ah...never shoot to kill...shoot to stop the threat.
Stop that paper from threatening for me!
Dear Mr. Putative President and Wookie Prymate:
If that 9mm Hi-point carbine with the new stock goes on sale tomorrow, I’m there dude!
Thanks, td
I found that my daughter doesn’t like how the semi-auto shells shoot out the side. (one actually went down wife’s and daughter’s tops after bouncing off the lane divider ouch). So we want to get her a revolver.
Other than the hot brass (yeah, ouch!) it has an aluminum receiver, right, is it reliable? Cycle OK? I’ve got a lot 9 mm squirreled away.
PS FYI I got my daughter a Rossi SS 357, 6” barrel. She started out w/ light .38 handloads & is a pretty fair shot now. Nice price, good learner.
“...is more proof that there is no correlation between gun ownership and violent crime...”
While it may not constitute proof in the rigidly scientific sense of the term, it certainly suggests that there IS a correlation - i.e., firearms in the hands of MORE of the law-abiding leads to LESS activity on the part of criminals.
“... is more proof that there is no correlation between gun ownership and violent crime.”
I heartily disagree. More guns = less crime. A society’s best friend, including law enforcement, are armed, honest citizens.
