According to Philadelphia Eagles players, the most courageous man on the team in 2009 was one who started the year serving time in prison for an act of extreme cowardice.
Today, the Eagles announced that Michael Vick was the 2009 winner of the Ed Block Courage Award, an honor given to a player who shows courage in the face of adversity. Vick's teammates voted for the award, thus demonstrating how tone-deaf and out-of-touch NFL players are with reality.
...
According to the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation Web site:
The Ed Block Courage Award recipient symbolizes professionalism, great strength and dedication. He is also a community role model.

Words escape me.
But I guess in a year when Obama wins the NPP, anything is possible.

Too soon to call a complete recovery. Vick prediction is he will pull a Tiger Woods of some sort and prove he is UNWORTHY of the award.

Why don’t they sign Tiger up so that they can give him the award next year? Then OJ. Blago. And any other schmuck who’s messed his own life up, but didn’t commit suicide because of it.
Geez. Great of you to hang in there, dog killer, here’s an award.

Sheesh, people. Vick served his time, is doing his bit for “animal welfare”-type charities, managed to get back into NFL-quality shape, and has truly added a new dimension to the Eagles with his play, smoothly platooning with McNabb. Things could go badly in the future, of course, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now that he has found redemption.
His teammates know him better than any of us, and if they wanted to give him this award, I’m not second-guessing them.
Sure a lot of “first-stone casters” around here today.
