In a remarkable moment in last night's edition of The Ed Show on MSNBC, Ed Schultz got carried away and made a small government case against mandatory health care insurance. Perhaps channeling his former line of work as a Rush Limbaugh impersonator on the Right, Schultz said:
The bill makes the insurance mandatory for all Americans. This mandate is one of the most unAmerican things, I think, the Senate has ever done. This isn't the same thing as mandating for car insurance or home owners insurance. I mean, there's nothing more personal than your body...Forcing people, by the way, to buy health care, in my opinion, that's not liberty. It's not reform. It's restriction. It's a restriction of freedom that's not democratic.
Evidently, Schultz switched back from conservative Jeckyll to leftist Hyde so swiftly that he did not realize he had repudiated his own position on health care "reform." Here's how....

I watch him everyday and it was great!
There is an huge irony here. Obama,Pelosi and Reid now have to fight off a liberal revolt over the personal mandates without the public plan, tax increases on unions, no anti-trust law. Obama ran against mandates in the Dem primary, Hillary proposed them, not popular with democrats (unless it’s slavery to the federal government ~ public plan/single payer.) .
Liberals see this as being sold into slavery to Health Insurance companies(this is the irony), some want to revolt and others are saying it’s more important to pass anything now and fix it later. There is a liberal civil war going on now and they have the holidays for things to boil over,
They see this compromise as another TARP, just more taxpayer money to the powerful corporations. And that the Democrat party sold them out. Obama sold them out. Keep asking liberals why the Health Insurance stocks are up. It’s killing them.
The left sees the government as Christians see God.
It can do no wrong.
Its plans are sovereign, infallible, and always work for good.
On the other hand, anything “private” is a work of their view of Satan.
I think Mr. Ed sees what's coming and it trying to pander to whichever side has the advantage at the moment, and he probably is using a double meaning to mandatory purchase. If it was mandatory government-run insurance, he would race to be the first to support it.
It’s so funny!
The liberals thought they were getting the utopian communism they’ve dreamed of (cradle to grave entitlements) instead they got ‘Corporatism’!!
They just couldn’t be satified with the mixed economy (socialism/capitalism) we’ve always had since the 1930’s!
GEEZ this guy is S.L.O.W.
He’s finally figuring this out?
You’re right, government is their religion.
In the past I have heard Schultz say some reasonable things; this is no surprise to me.
Now there's a word rank and file Democrats should become more familiar with! Perhaps they should also become familiar with the term "rent seeking".
I’m convinced there are no atheists.
We are created to worship (the “God shaped hole in our soul”).
People reject God because of the whole “objective standard of behavior” deal that they don’t want to comply with (ie, they want to be God unto themselves, see Gen 3:4-5),
so they pick something to “worship”. When you worship anything but God, you’re doing the work of Satan. See tagline.
