Husband Reportedly Drove Hundreds of Miles in Rental Car Days After Wife Disappeared (Josh Powell)

The husband of a missing Utah woman rented a car two days after his wife was reported to have disappeared, logging hundreds of miles on the vehicle as police try to determine where he traveled, the Deseret News reported.

Police in West Valley City, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City, say that Joshua Powell — a person of interest in his wife's disappearance — rented the car for 24 hours while police had his minivan in custody to process it for evidence.

Police are now looking into where Powell drove during that 24-hour period because the car lacked a GPS tracking device but had "several hundred" extra miles on it when he returned it to the rental car company, the Deseret News reported.

However many miles that car had on it, cut it in half, draw a circle on a map that corresponds with that mileage, and begin your search.

My thinking too!

Too bad that LE could not have put a tag on the car before he drove off - as they did with Drew Peterson (??)

Maybe he wanted to prevent police investigators from determining where exactly he dumped his wife's body. Drive to cover up the scene of the crime!

Paging Officer Barney Fife ... Officer Fife, the Salt Lake Police need you - as they haven't got a frickin' clue.

Here's a tip, Police(super-genius) Chief Wiggam ... when your Prime suspect is out free, and a body hasn't been found - it may JUST be a good idea to keep an eye on him, where he goes, what he does....

But, I'm just an engineer; not a super-genius detective.

It amazed me that these guys think they’ll get away with it. He’s seems particularly inept.

Currently there is enough emotion for a jury to convict him, but there is not enough facts and evidence to charge him.

The police are even MORE inept, if they didn’t follow him on his rental car journey, and make SURE anything he rented had a police GPS tracker stuck on it!

Apparently Susan did not have a *second* car. No APB out for a car - only her cell phone & purse were found in the home...no mention of car keys.

Lucky for the police - deciding to break into the house - believing the family was perhaps suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. Otherwise - the perp would have had time to dispose of the wet carpet, the purse and the cell phone.

My guess is that LE put a tracker on the rental. Big mistake if they didn’t. Smells like a duck.

His minivan was taken by LE to search for evidence.

Seems like LE should keep some well-equipped *rental* vehicles on hand for cases like this.

Like other FReepers, I cannot believe that LE did not GPS the rental car. But, he does have a lawyer!!!!

He rented a car. What was he supposed to do after they took his vehicle, walk??? Maybe, just maybe he was driving around looking for his wife?? If You were in his shoes and had not killed your wife, would you be sitting home doing nothing????
This fits a not guilty person just as well as it fits a guilty one.

As we say in the police business: Thank G-d criminals are stupid.

This guy drove, dumped the body, and drove back, IMHO.

He probably paid cash for the rental car and thought he was being smart.
