Murder and manslaughter dropped a remarkable 10 percent in the first half of this year, according to preliminary figures released by the FBI Monday showing crime falling across the country.

Overall, violent crimes fell by 4.4 percent and property crimes dropped by 6.1 percent, according to the data collected by the FBI. Crime rates haven't been this low since the 1960's, and are nowhere near the peak reached in the early 1990's.

The new figures show car thefts also dropped significantly, falling nearly 19 percent and continuing a sharp downward trend in that category.

Obviously the awful economy and mass unemployment is at work.

BS

It more likely that the mass quantitity of firearms purchased in the last year and a half has something to do with it.

“In unrelated news, it is estimated that 1.5 million undocumented workers have left the US in the past year due to the recession...”

Could it be? “And when the Messiah cometh, they shall beat their swords into plowshares” and the 1000 year reign will usher in peace upon earth and goodwill towards men. Or could it be? The people adding up the numbers can't count.

Gosh. I wonder where all the bullets from record sales of ammunition went?

More and more cars come without ignition lock. I have a keyfob, if it is in the car it will start, otherwise you need to call NSA and have them crack the code. Or you can use a flatbed truck, but the transmission is locked and can't be unlocked, so the drive wheels won't spin. No other option with that car. I think Mercedes started this trend at least 10 years ago, with a key that has a built-in RFID.

Obviously the lowering of violent crime rates is part of the *inheritance from the previous eight years.*

I don’t suppose that 11,400,000 guns and billions of bullets have a thing to do with it?

I don’t know what to make of the numbers put out by the FBI.

Every day you hear of someone getting shot dead, and yet there are supposed to be fewer people getting shot dead.

Is there less crime? I have a very hard time believing that. Let’s just say I’m somewhat of a skeptic on that point.

Population increases alone, would generally support the idea numbers would up, even if they went down per hundred thousand.

I remember when murder seemed to be the prevailing pastime in D.C.

Eventually, it did trend downwards.

The police hailed the trend as proof of their crime fight prowess. I figured it was either a stabilization of the drug market, or the decline of a finite number of gangbangers.

I believe if someone researches this, that this is the first time in history when the economy has gone into the dumpster and crime didn’t shoot through the roof.

This is all due to 2 things.
1. Gun Ownership
2. Gun Rights Improvements - Castle Doctrine, concealed carry, etc.....

Time for the NRA to Pipe this from the ramparts from coast to coast.

I’ve heard different theories from a change in the way they were classifying certain crimes to just plain fudging.

Probably neither is true, but if anything the groups who commit crimes are more rabid today than ever. In fact, people are almost given license today due to injustice and the like.

It’s because left wing wackos are happy and contented now...happy they have a commie in the WH who is going to pay all their doctor bills. When you’re happy, you aren’t as likely to kill and maim.
